Cat wee on wooden floor

I’ve been looking after a friends cat since March. He’s very settled now but keeps urinating by the front door, on a wooden floor. I don’t want to put in a cat flap as he won’t be with me long term so I have to use a tray. The patch he’s weeing on smells and I can’t get rid of the aroma in the house. Any ideas how to neutralise the smell and stop him doing it?

Buy a cat urine remover from pets at home. Could you put a tray near the area?
Does he go outside at all? Don't need a cat flap to have a cat that goes outdoors

You can buy various cleaners. Don't use disinfectant.
You could try putting baking soda on it to dry up any residue then white vinegar to neutralise the smell.
It's very difficult to stop a cat weeing on a spot where the smell has become established. I had a cat that persisted in peeing by the front door. Only stopped when she was old enough to go outside. She really didn't want to toilet indoors.

My cat had a habit for a while urinating in a corner of the living room. It was on carpet. I mopped up any excess moisture I could get up with kitchen roll, the bicarbonate of soda over it, left that for a while(a good few hours) and then hovered it up. Seemed to get rid of the smell.

I also read that cats dont like citrus so sprinkled lemon juice in the spot where she kept urinating, she did stop; obviously it could have been a coincidence but maybe worth a try?

Thanks for this. He does go outside when I’m here but I am at work for 10 hours a day which is when he urinates indoorS. I’ve tried an extra tray but he chose not to use it!

Can you put a washable mat where he pees and just stick it through the machine?
I have some rubber backed door mats that are washable. Might save the floor from getting ingrained with the smell.

I think that’s what cause the problem in the first place. He was peeing on a rubber backed mat and I hadn’t realised. The liquid was stuck between the rubber and the floor and has damaged the floor, lifting the varnish. However, your idea probably would work @Beamur if I checked it daily so thank you!

I wonder if a puppy pad under the mat would help
