Help - where do you actually get kittens?

Our old DDog sadly died last Christmas and we’re now ready to welcome a new pet. We’d like a couple of kittens ideally.

I’ve approached a few shelters who are either not accepting any more applications for kittens or haven’t got back to me at all.

I’ve looked on local ad sites too quite reluctantly as I think they might be dodgy/kitten farms - how do I know who is reputable?

Is it just the case of waiting now as kitten season is over and demand is high, or is there an established route to take?

Any advice very welcome, thank you.

We have a few local rescues where we live.

I follow them on Facebook.

I find our local CPL woman very snooty so although all my previous cats have been CPL when we adopted in summer I did so through a local (but long established) independent rescue.

We got an older kitten. Still very playful but also neutered, litter trained and we had some idea of temperament.

Although once she came more out of her shell she was even more of a delight than when at the fosterers.

Wonderful news OP. Keep us posted!

As well as CP and the other excellent selections ask your local vet. Some will allow people to advertise pets and it's normally the first port of call for rescues / strays and pregnant cats often become strays.

Here's my girl. She's a rescue from an overcrowded hoarder house, she's been poorly with cat flu and I think most likely got attention as a cute kitten but then ignored as she got less cute.

So she's not feral, but she's blooming terrified and doesn't know how to be a cat except to hide away, eat and poop. I'm a week I've managed to initiate contact, show her how to play, and get her to start coming out of her shell.

I hope you're as happy with your kitties as much as I am with my Ghost.

Oh she’s lovely @Kakiweewee, amazing how much you’ve achieved with her in a week.

Here we are - they are just lovely. The boy has a thing about hair, the girl is a bit of a daredevil. They will keep us on our toes for sure! We saw them with mum who is such a lovely friendly cat, and seemed very chilled with us there cuddling her babies.

Mum is very young and was found having had a litter in a shed, taken in by CP and found to be pregnant again. She is lovely and the bond she had with the CP volunteer was really special to see.

They look lovely OP. Delighted that consulting the mad cat people on Mumsnet has paid off. Grin.

Me too! I’m very grateful for you all helping me make sense of it all.
