Do you vaccinate your indoor cats?

Just that really. I've taken my 2 indoor ragdolls for their annual check up and vaccinations for the last 6 years, but I'm starting to wonder what the point is. They're healthy and they never come into contact with other cats.

Do you vaccinate your indoor cats?

Yes. Because the cattery won't take them otherwise. And I like them to have a 6 month Health check. Both Persians. The first two ha ve been nothing but trouble health wise!

OohKittens · 08/11/2020 15:39

Yes but they do walk on the harness.

Paranoidmarvin · 08/11/2020 16:28

I do mine but he is an indoor cat. But even if he wasn’t I would. 1. Incase he ever got out I knew he would be protected.

  1. You have no idea what u will bring in on the bottom of ur shoes or bags.
mrscatmad31 · 08/11/2020 16:39

Yes because it may invalidate their insurance and they need a check up once a year anyway, I was a vet nurse and I'm very pro vaccination

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 08/11/2020 18:03

Yes. Because even though he’s an indoor cat I like to take him to our local park in his backpack and let him have a little wander on his lead.
Plus as PP already said, you can’t always be sure what you’re bringing in on your shoes.

diplodocusinermine · 08/11/2020 18:10

Yes, mainly due to them going to cattery - they came back with the sneezes last time they went in so obviously things do float around.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/11/2020 18:49

I would just in case they did come into contact with an unvaccinated cat and caught something I’d feel really guilty.

Allergictoironing · 08/11/2020 19:34

Yes, just in case. Before I worked out the current system for having the french doors open in summer without the cats escaping, I had 2 unsolicited entries - 1 barged through the netting, and the other came over the 4 foot high chicken wire (I use both together now, seems to work).

Plus as various OPs have said, it may invalidate insurance, you never know what you're bringing in on you, & though I have no particular intention of having them in a cattery for any reason I can't rule it out that it may be a necessity one day.

FlyNow · 08/11/2020 19:37

Only because I use a cattery at times. Otherwise I wouldn't.

AuditAngel · 08/11/2020 19:39

I haven’t been, but may need chattery going forward so will be going forward

tofuschnitzel · 08/11/2020 19:43

Yes, in case they go in a cattery. It's not that much money for yearly jabs, how much would you be saving? I just don't think it's worth the risk. At least you know it's a yearly thing and can budget accordingly.

PaquitaVariation · 08/11/2020 19:57

No, because they don’t go out and don’t go to a cattery or have insurance. Our vets are a cat only practice and they’ve never pushed it or even hinted that it was necessary.

Bargebill19 · 08/11/2020 22:15

The older two - no, as they both reacted badly to their first inoculations, they come with us on holiday. The three kittens will continue until they are able to come on holiday with us, as they will have to go to cattery. We don’t insure any pets. (Save the premiums instead).
