Hi all, was going to post a happy into to the litter tray but unfortunately the week of having kittens has been a very stressful one. Sad I'm hoping the collective wisdom of you all can help!

We have a pair of female pedigree ragdolls from a very reputable breeder, they're 14 weeks and were speyed a week before we got them. Registered non-active with the GCCF, breeder is local and we visited 6 times from 4 weeks to 14 weeks. Met Mum, Dad, uncle and Grandma of kittens and absolutely happy this is not down to a dodgy breeder. We've kept all food and litter identical to the breeder's.

Kit 1 is very happy and settled and is a proper fusspot, eating and drinking and toileting as expected. Affectionate and playful.

Kit 2 has been quiet since the beginning and has always been a calm little thing but we saw her playing with her siblings and eating well. She's had diahorrea since day 1 which was put down to stress initially, then we asked the vet and they gave her a probiotic. In this last 3 days this didn't help and she's lost weight (70g!)

We took her to the emergency vets today and she's had blood and stool samples to be sent off but she's completely lost the will to live. Even fresh fish and tuna can't tempt her. We're syringing fluids into her but I'm terrified we're going to find her dead in the morning.

Please please - any advice? Or is it back to the vets again?

Please get her straight back to the emergency vets tonight. Ring them now. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

gingerwhingerwife · 02/11/2020 20:13

Yes. Vets immediately

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/11/2020 20:19

Oh god she looks sick, I’d go back to the vets. I hope it’s something treatable.

Are they insured?.

orangetop2 · 02/11/2020 20:20

Yes also to vets ..

Have you tried slightly warming the food , when my cat used to get poorly and off food I would warm usual wet food a little to enhance the smell and it would work.. maybe worth a shot

Cuddling57 · 02/11/2020 20:35

Oh no poor kittie. I have boiled chicken before and let them drink the water juices from it.

orangetop2 · 02/11/2020 20:37

Also another thing I would do is get kitten milk and dab it on the nose so he would lick it off so he gets a taste for it, I would either sit and do this until he had atleast a little so I know fluids were in him or he would start drinking it himself ... or the lickable treats that are just sauce I would dab that on his nose lightly so he would lick it off and hopefully eat it once again getting the taste for it .

Beautiful kittens I hope she recovers , fingers crossed

So emergency vets have seen her and gave oral fluids but said it was too stressful for her to be kept in. They were able to contact our vet, who said she's had stool results already showing Kit 2 has Giardia. I was surprised as we've seen the worming records from the breeder but vet says this can be 'wormer resistant' so has given us a proper anti-parasitic.

We've given Kit 2 warm water mixed with tuna and she's had a couple of mouthfuls. She seemed to rally a bit after the oral solution at the vets and is back at 8.30 in the morning for a very thorough check over and to possibly do an IV of fluids. Poor baby Sad

Sorry to hear your cats been poorly, earlier this year my dog had Gardia and she was so poorly I honestly thought she was going to pass away.
24 hours after starting her meds she was like a new dog so I'm sure you'll see results soon

TheoriginalLEM · 02/11/2020 23:49

You should be sware that giardia is a zoonosis and you can catch this so take appropriate precautions, but thats just norma hygeine etc.

Beautiful kittens - i hope she feels well soon

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/11/2020 09:32

How is she today?.

Mumdiva99 · 03/11/2020 13:25

Been thinking of you all night @stylishmummy . How is the beautiful kitten today?

Lougle · 03/11/2020 13:31

Poor love. Please tell me the breeder insured her?

StylishMummy · 03/11/2020 23:55

Hi all, thank you for the advice yesterday, we honestly thought we could've lost her. She's been given an animal version of dioralyte and an anti parisitic to clear the giardia. We've got pain relief for her too which has made her a lot more comfortable. She's made more effort today to eat and drink and use the litter tray. Poo is still thick mucous and has no form but seeing her improve hopefully means poo will soon firm up.

She's being attended by her sister and groomed lots, this evening she pulled onto the sofa after her rehydration syringes and snuggled up with us. Touch wood we're going in the right direction!

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/11/2020 00:02

I hope she pulls through, she's absolutely gorgeous, I love ragdolls.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/11/2020 19:51

How is she getting on?.

Mumdiva99 · 04/11/2020 22:57

Glad to hear she's improving. That's lovely news.

StylishMummy · 05/11/2020 11:32

Kit had to go back to the breeder as it turns out she had severe congenital issues that couldn't have been found until blood tests were done. The insurance wouldn't touch her and we were looking at a bill of thousands despite all singing and dancing insurance. Breeder is very well off and is going to keep her as a pet as a companion for her elderly mum. Can afford all necessary treatments without the need for insurance.

Gutted about what's happened but our other kit is very happy and settled and is absolutely lapping up the extra attention

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/11/2020 11:35

Well no one was to know that would happen and the breeder already has a home for her.

Allergictoironing · 05/11/2020 12:08

That was good of the breeder. You hear so many horror stories about cat & dog breeders that it's good to hear about a really decent one.

Sad for you, but the other one looks very happy and may well prefer to be an only cat.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/11/2020 13:09

Sorry to ask a few difficult questions but I'm genuinely confused by this.
The kitten had congenital problems - surely the breeder should have been aware of them?
Your breeder also has a giardia infection in her animals yet apparently didn't notice it.
Your 'all singing all dancing insurance' won't cover these congenital problems despite not being known about when the policy was taken out?
Sounds like a rubbish breeder & dodgy insurance tbh.
I hope you are getting your other kitten tested.

CastleOfDoom · 05/11/2020 15:37

Oh god I hope the poorly kitten is treated and not just put down Angry

Floralnomad · 05/11/2020 15:44

Totally agree with pp that I’d be getting the other kitten checked out properly as she could also turn out to be a very costly animal . My mum had a Ragdoll from an apparently reputable breeder ( very successful at shows etc) and he was basically a very sickly animal from day 2 of having him home . The breeder couldn’t distance herself quickly enough and he cost thousands , fortunately to Petplan, over the years in bowel operations . Lovely cat and my mum was devoted to him but he was very hard work and expensive to maintain .
