Can I train my cat to stop waking me up?

We're new cat owners and have had our 2 yo rescue cat for about 6 weeks and she's lovely. However I've never been so sleep deprived for a long time!

She sleeps in dd's top bunk bed but gets out at about 6am, or earlier, and insists on someone escorting her downstairs for breakfast which someone usually does and then they go back to bed. But after she's had breakfast she'll go back upstairs, sit on the landing and meow until someone pays some attention.

If she wakes me up too early I'll go on to the landing and say "No Lola" and then go back to bed but tbh I don't think she stops meowing, I think someone else has just been getting her so she stops the racket Grin

Any hope at all of trying to get her to stop waking us up Confused

Well, third morning on a trot and didn't hear a sound out of her, in fact she was lying in dd's top bunk when I got up. Normally she's waiting outside my door.
Am now starting to wonder if DH gave her the boot a few times Hmm

@maggiethecat

she always has dry food to hand - she just wants to be waited upon 😡
That is because she thinks you are her slave, that is why and she expects you to bow down to her every want and need 😼😹

It seems that we have trained her! Undisturbed sleep for 5 nights!!

Of course, now that I've said that.......

If you find a way op let me know and I'll try it on the 5 yo. Human, not feline...

Never succeeded with my humans I'm afraid 🤣

Well done. Our 15 year old cat was finally quiet in the night but then DD (also 15) went downstairs saying she couldn't sleep as she was worried our cat had died Shock and she stroked the cat until she woke up. Grin

I second the suggestion to get an automatic feeder. We had the same problem and it totally solved the problem as he doesnt associate me getting up with being fed anymore. He got out of the habit of waking me within about 2 days of using the automatic feeder!

Silkie, tbh we thought something was wrong with ours too when she stopped waking us up Confused

Okdaisy, think we've cracked it as she doesn't wake us anymore. We just got very firm with her 😉
