12 weeks pregnant, bad idea to get a cat?

As per the title really, would this be irresponsible, selfish or distressing for a cat? Aware of the ‘no cleaning litter tray trule’.

You’d need a bomb proof adult cat.

Do it. And as a PP said, get a bomb proof adult.

I wouldn’t. I’m pregnant with my first and have 6 year old cats who we got as kittens, I know them and their temperaments really well and I’m not worried about them with a baby (though they may destroy our bedroom door when I start shutting them out at night) but I wouldn’t introduce a new cat I didn’t know right now. A kitten could be as much as sleep stealer as a new baby (ours howled for us all night when they were little) and an older cat may have had a bad experience with babies/children and not like them. Just too risky.

As well as unsettling for a cat. I know ours will just remove themselves from noise/situations they’re not happy with, but another cat may not.

Yes, bad idea. I had very little time for my cat when DD was a newborn. Really not ideal. Wait until your baby is here and see if you've got enough time and inclination at that point to take on a pet.

Don't. Especially if you've never had a cat before. Litter trays and so on.

I did. Although I didn't know I was pregnant when we got the cat. We're lucky, she's very cuddly before and after I had the baby and she's very good around him now (DS is 5 months). She wasn't sure about the noise to begin with but now when he cries she'll either walk out the room or if it's really bad she'll come and check on him.
