Poorly after vaccination

Moppet had her annual vaccination yesterday. She was a rescue cat, and she was fine after her first jabs with us last year.
Today she is very sleepy and lethargic. Is this common? It seems strange after her different reaction last year.

Yes it’s common for them to be lethargic and have no appetite for a day or two after vaccs.

She has emerged from her dark spot under the bed, is now on the bed and has eaten a few mouthfuls of her favourite food, brought up to her by concerned DH aka slave.
She seems perkier.

Thank you LadyFannyButton, that makes me feel less worried. I will ring the vet later if she does not continue to improve.

Happened to mine on the second jab when he was 18 months.

We are not sure how old Moppet is, as she was a rescue cat, but Vet thinks 4-5 years old. I rang the vet just to check, and they thought she was recovering from the trauma of visiting the vet, plus side effects of jab.
As she is using her litter tray and ate a little food and has not been sick, they felt she should be fine, but to ring tomorrow if not. They made a note of her reaction in her notes for next time.

Yep mine did this after his booster jab a few months ago, he's 4.5 years old.

We love them so much and worry! 😥

Moppet retreated to her dark place under the bed last night, DH was banished to the spare room to make room in case Mops decided to move up and sleep on the bed.
However she is much better this morning, is downstairs on the conservatory sofa, has eaten and drunk and done a lot of deep purring.
Does anyone know if there are different brands of cat vaccination products?
Maybe it was the particular type that disagreed with her and next time we could try another.

You sent your husband to the spare room in case the cat wanted his space in your bed? Ha ha ha I love you OP!

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/10/2020 12:20

Dh used to sleep on the spare bed when Bertie was ill.

There are different brands, I’ve seen pure fax recommended on here.

😂

I shouldn't laugh - DH banishes himself to the spare room if Leroy is on the bed for any reason!

There are different manufacturers of vaccines, but if it's a short lived common side affect it might not be worth changing to an unknown. I'm sure your vet will have different ones though as they'll undoubtedly be lots of pets that don't react well to certain brands.

Hope Mops is feeling a bit perkier.

Moppet is back on almost 100% form. Thank you, everyone, for your concern.

She visits our bed most nights, but buzzes off if we dare to change position. If DH had to move out every time she joined us, he would not spend many nights in the marital bed, hence he was content to move out on this occasion to make a sickly cat happy. 😿

Thank you for the advice on alternative vaccines. Clearly something to discuss with the vet.
