Wet food for a diabetic cat

DH has asked me to ask MN for recommended wet food brands for a diabetic cat. He is trying to bulk order for MIL, and again, has no idea what to choose from the many options on zooplus. MIL cat was very recently diagnosed diabetic.

Many thanks.

Go for the highest meat content you can find.

Does the cat need to loose weight, gain weight or stay the same?
Royal canin Diabetic
Purina Proplan DM
Hills for weight loss r/d, w/d
For weight maintaining m/d or metabolic.

Honestly, i'd check out KatKin - their cat food is delivered monthly, pre portioned and is 95% meat content, which sounds good for your MIL cat. But deffo check with vet first x

So I have a diabetic dog not cat but you need to find something under 12%fat by dry matter . Don't just read the number on the pack. Nothing with rice / grains / carrots.

Ddog is on chappie, I would never have fed it to him before but it is based on white fish. There must be similar for cats? No salmon, tuna, or any other oily fish. Too fatty.

You can use this calculator for fat content by dry matter

@AriettyHomily cat diabetes is slightly different to dogs and as such low fat is not so important they are more type1b than type1. High protein is the most important thing for diabetic cat diets.

I use Royal Canin Diabetic wet and dry.

In any case, I'd look for specific diabetic food rather than a generic one.
