Fearing the jump

My second question this evening!
12 week old kitten is still learning her way around our house at the same time as she's building up her confidence, judging what jumps she can or can't make in different rooms.
Our house is on 3 floors. On the middle floor landing we keep the hoover. She likes to hide behind the hoover and puts her paws through the bannister rails looking over to the stairs opposite her. I see her considering the jump, and whether or not she can make it from the landing to the stairs on the other side. She may or may not make the distance. My worry is the bannister which she doesn't seem to consider will block her landing! I'm in fear of the day when no one is watching her and she decides to attempt the leap, because there's no way she can leap through the narrow gaps of the bannister rails! But how can we stop her? DH is on a mission to sort out cat insurance in preparation for the day! (She's currently still under the first 4 weeks free that we got from the vet with our first kitten check up). We move her whenever we see her sitting in that spot. What else can we do to pre-empt a disaster?

I would temporarily block the bit she looks like she might leap from with a sheet of cardboard or mdf - just until she gets a bit bigger and can't get between the bannisters to jump - ours did some stupid things when they were kittens!!

I’ve covered our stair spindles with a toddler guard to stop our kitten doing this!

Yep we blocked in the landing banisters before the kitten arrived. He is definitely one who would have a go at jumping

Cats have spent millions of years perfecting climbing and jumping. Don't worry!

I used a clear baby guard thing from Amazon too because my stairs have a very long drop down.

Lola has to work herself up to scale the beams in our ceiling and she's pleased as puss when she succeeds.
But lately she's had a couple of misses and slides back down the double doors Grin

Thanks everyone. I'll look at toddler guards for the bsnnister rails. I just think it's quite a fall if she attempts it, bumps her head and falls all the way to the bottom! We have high ceilings so it's quite a drop!

We have 3 floors too and I was worried about the same thing with our kittens. Was considering getting a toddler guard but then I though when it eventually came off it would just attract more interest. They are 6 months now and completely ignore the bannisters.

*thought not though
