Cat spraying

We have a neutered 2-3 year old male cat who keeps spraying in the house and it's driving me crackers!

It's only just started in the last 3 months. In the last month he's sprayed on a couple of arm chairs, base of a bed throw and a plastic bag that was waiting to be taken to charity. All different rooms.

The neighbours cats do pick on him a bit, but they always have done since we got him so no changes there.

He is currently having repetitive surgeries to remove all his teeth due to chronic ginigvitis so possibly related to that? He's waiting for the last surgery this week.

I've tried a Feliway upstairs and downstairs but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. We do try keeping him in one room during the day (near his food with cat flap access outside) but this seems to encourage him to spray.

It's definitely not toileting as he has access to a litter tray which he never uses and he is going out to use the toilet.

Any suggestions or tips before I rip out all my soft furnishings and turn my house in a clinical environment?!

Poor boy he does sound stressed, operations and hostile neighbours.

Which litter do you use? If it’s too rough on their little paws they’ll spray rather than go out especially in this weather. Try ultra clumping as it’s very soft on paws.

They can get a uti with no loss of appetite or lethargy so a trip to the vet wouldn’t hurt him.

Long term cystease capsules mixed in food help them stay infection free.

Has he been checked for kidney function? Kidney disease caused my old boy to spray.

He's going to the vet weekly at the moment and they couldn't find any indication of uti.

He's only about 2.5, I think kidney disease is unlikely but will mention to the vet when we go.

I will try ultra clumping litter and see if that makes a difference. However when I've had cats who toilet in the house they've gone a lot more regularly than him and in the same couple of places whereas he's always somewhere different.
