Are the vet health clubs worth it?

Hi All,

We are new cat owners, picking him up from the rescue tomorrow. I have been looking at veterinary practices to register him with and noticed that most offer some sort of health or care club, where you pay monthly and received all vaccinations, flea and worm treatments etc under this. Are they worth it or are they a con to extract money from you?

The Vets 4 Pets one works out at a saving for me. I think it includes a discount on a treatment too.

Vets 4 Pets is a franchise so a branch is only as good as its owners. The one near me is excellent. They have evening and weekend appointments, which is important if you work.

That's reassuring to know, he's already registered with a Vets4Pets branch locally. Thank you.

My pair are indoor only so don't need frequent worm & flea treatments, but do have an annual MoT & their jabs which costs me about £60-70 each including some prophylactic Advocate drops. Definitely not worth a plan for mine, but they don't need the regular flea & worm.

I understand the Vets4Pets plan is around a tenner a month, and a good spot on flea & worm treatment can cost a big chunk of that. Add in the MoT, and the other benefits like certain discounts, and tends to be well worth it if your cat foes out.

They're loyalty discount schemes basically. You pay X amount and get Y covered which equates to a saving when you total it all up. What the vets get in return is your loyalty. You're more bonded to them as a client, less likely to change vets and go somewhere else.

Whether they're worth it depends entirely on which benefits you'd take advantage of. Most of them work out as a saving if you vaccinate, flea and worm regularly, before you then look at any additional benefits.

Give some surgeries a call and chat it through with the receptionist. The plans are different depending on which provider provides them

Mine was ok when it was £9.99 a month. But it's gone up to £13. Mine are also indoor and I'm a bit lax with the flea treatment as well. Since the insurance bills are astronomical. I might cancel one of them.

It works out as a great deal for ours. We have definitely saved money

Mine is around £10 and it saves me paying for flea/wormer & vaccinations -which all have a huge mark up on them-so it works out cheaper to do the plan than pay for all those separately.

They offer really good savings on preventative health care

I’ve found it worth it. Mine is £10 a month and he gets flea & worm treatment, vaccinations and an annual checkup. He’s also had a blood test recently and this was discounted too.
