Fleas! Advocate not working?

Spotted some little jumpy bastards on my lovely boy this evening Sad I had suspected fleas as me and DD have had a few bites recently, but when we took DCat to the vet a few days ago (for something else) the vet said she couldn’t see any evidence of fleas Hmm

We treat him with advocate monthly (and obsessively - I react badly to bites so I really want to keep the little buggers away). Could the advocate have stopped working? I was hoping there might be “hitchhiker” fleas, but I’m guessing that’s unlikely? What could we try instead?

And any tips to rid the house of them? I do hoover the downstairs every day already, but not upstairs. I’ve got a bottle of indorex and going to spray this weekend when I can send the kids out. My house is just full of kid clutter and nooks & crannies though... what is the best way to use it? And is washing bed covers enough, or do I need to do duvet/pillows too? Thank you Flowers

I think it is only a matter of time before fleas develop a resistance to advocate. Just as they have with frontline.

It might be worth switching to another pesticide and see if it helps.

Saying that, no flea product will work straight away so you may well see the odd one or two straglers.

Definitely treat the environment, indorex works well.

You dont have to wash the quilts but it may be as well to steam them with the iron, pillows and matresses too. Flea larvae head for the dark so nooks and crannies are where you need to spray .

Thanks LEM I’ve had a good hoover round today and haven’t found any more evidence of them. No bites last night (changed the bed sheets right before bed). I’m now wondering whether to trust that the advocate will kill any fleas on the cat and just monitor the situation, or whether to use the indorex. I’d prefer to avoid chemicals if I can, as my skin is so sensitive, but it’s also v v sensitive to bites!

Any more experience?
