Cat - allergy sorted but fur not growing back

I have a 9 year old female cat that up until about 6 months ago had a very full, long haired coat.
I noticed that she had been over grooming her legs, rear end and sort of hips area and the fur in these areas had gone very thin.
She's had a couple of steroid injections that don't last long.
She is eating Blink cat food which seems to have helped and I haven't noticed her over grooming anymore - just usual levels.
Her fur doesn't seem to be growing back and she looks awful!
Her weight hasn't changed so she only looks thinner because of the lack of fur.
Any suggestions please?
She has recently been diagnosed with an over active thyroid which medication has sorted out - but the vet tells me this shouldn't affect her skin or fur.
Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully things are improving by now.

I have a siamese with similar problems. He had some hot spots in August, they're healing very slowly, but he's over grooming too. Last week at the vets he said it could be a symptom of him being in pain and he's to have painkillers daily for a week to see if there's any difference. I think he is grooming significantly less, apart from one day that wasn't great. It could be joint pain, he's 12 years old. Who knows? Is it worth mentioning to the vet? Otherwise I guess it'll just take time for the hair to grow back. I know when they shaved my cat's neck to put a drip in it took months to grow back properly.

The itching has all flared up again and she's overgrooming again.
She's had a blood test now to see what she is allergic to - hopefully we can make her feel better.

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried feeding pure chicken for a bit to see if the allergy goes away?

The vet wasn't keen on that when I suggested that as he said she wouldn't get a property balanced diet.
I was going to try it anyway but he suggested the Blink food which is very simple and mostly chicken or fish.
It hasn't solved the problem though unless she is getting something elsewhere which I really don't think she is.

No in the long term she wouldn't be getting all the nutrients she needs, just thought as a temporary solution it might help.

I'm stuck. My cat is only eating chicken and still has diarrhoea Sad Thought he was improving and cancelled a vet visit yesterday, only for the diarrhoea to reappear! I'll have to make a new appointment, but dreading it as I need to take a sample from 3 separate occasions and store it in the fridge inbetween! Also don't have the container to put it in as I started before, then he improved so I threw it away Confused The vet is 30 min drive away, so I'm thinking of a way to improvise. On the plus side, since taking painkillers he's barely pulling hair out.

Hope you get sorted - it's very difficult getting samples/giving meds.
Good job they're worth it!!
