Christmas trees

I am thinking of getting a Christmas tree with that fake snow on this year. We are also getting a 12wk old kitten tomorrow. Anyone know if the snow stuff is ok around cats? I fully expect the tree to be horizontal half the time 😂

I dont know but we have a screw in eye thing in the wall that we use to attach the tree to. We used an old bag strap that has a clip on it

It stays that all year hidden by twigs and shit, collecting cobwebs

Colin has just found it as a new toy to play with

I know this doesn't answer your question but...

We bought an expensive (£150) artificial tree that had fake snow on it.

Looked great the first year, the second year it had developed a strange smell that pervaded the house even though we tried dousing it with Febreeze, the third year I put it outside for two weeks before we needed it, then tried to jet-wash the snow off, then threw it away.
I was convinced the problem was caused by the 'snow'

If your cat does eat the 'snow' in the first year I bet it won't be tempted to in the next year!

Having researched this, as far as I can tell the fake snow should be non-toxic to cats. Real Christmas trees can actually pose more dangers than fake ones, in fact. I've had two new kittens in the last two years, both have played with our fake snow Christmas tree and come to no harm from the snow. The fairy lights were probably more of a danger, especially for kitten no 1 who was prone to biting wires and had to be constantly supervised as a consequence.
Having said that, as above, our snow tree does smell rather when it first comes down from the loft. I'll probably go for a regular, snowless fake tree in future.

Thanks for your replies. The strap is a good idea! (And bonus year round toy haha!). You’ve put me off fake snow trees for being smelly now!

We have a balsalm hill fake snow tree and it doesn’t smell!
