How do we bring the crazy hour forward a bit

We brought our gorgeous kitten home a week ago yesterday. She's a bengal, nearly 11 weeks old. We knew she would have a lot of energy and need paytime, which we're fine with. However, we're finding that she spends the evening in a deep sleep that we can barely wake her up from, and then she has crazy hour just when we all want to sleep. It lasts from around 10.30 to 11.30. We've tried feeding her earlier to see if the whole routine can be brought forward, but she just wants to snuggle and sleep when we're winding down, then play when we want to go to bed. Current routine is she naps most of the day (broken up with occasional runs around the house) while DC are at school. They play with her when they get home, then she eats and then we get on with our evening. She tries to eat our dinner, then falls asleep while we sit and watch TV, even though we keep trying to wake her up.

I just realised that @maggiethecat posted something very similar!

Are you sure that is a cat? Looks more like a tiger to me!

@Toddlerteaplease she's a beautiful little leopard!

You can change your clocks and pretend it’s earlier! Grin
Otherwise? No chance.

She is absolutely stunning.

We had a Bengal till November last year, Mine loved a routine too & wasn’t up for adapting his life style choices for us.

Take the toys up to the bedroom so you can play up there & try some chasing things up and down the stairs games. Their sprinters not marathon runners so keep going till she flops onto her side.

They stay this playful forever.

Oh, she's a baby - and what a beauty - but you will just have to put up with it!
We have a silver bengal, she's 3 now. She still wants to play, she's brilliant fun, uber friendly. But she has a spell where she bombs around the house (and up the curtains) most nights. We can't control it. Best to accept you can't! She can play out in our cat proofed back yard now so burns off more energy in the day....

Your kitten is beautiful.

No idea but following as I could do with the same from my kittens. They are currently sparko. Then will wake about 10....go mental for and hour or so before settling. I don't want to lock them in the kitchen before this as I think they need the exercise...... and I dread to think the chaos they would cause in one room. I end up sleeping on the sofa.....

Our late Dcat did this when younger and I think it may well have been a reaction to us going to bed so my suggestion would be to start your bedtime routine earlier (ending with watching that last bit of your box set in bed perhaps?)

crimsonlake · 23/09/2020 18:13

Kittens are supposed to sleep a lot, yes? I can report mine hardly ever slept during the day at all. At least you are having quiet times during the day, mine was basically at it 24/7. Sorry no advice.

@Fluffycloudland77 yes, she sprints up and down the stairs. She's not really interested in staying upstairs in any bedrooms. She likes to sleep on the sofa, so we just have to wait until she calms down a little bit.

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis she isn't allowed out yet. I'm hoping once we start letting her out during the day that she'll use up some of that energy to calm down more at night.

@crimsonlake she doesn't sleep so much as cat nap during the day. She'll fall into a deep sleep in the evening when we're winding down on the sofa, then wake up ready for playtime when we want to go to bed.

She has full access to the house through the night (other than bedroom doors being closed, but she can run around). But we feel a bit guilty leaving her to it when she's running around playing and we want to just to go to bed
