New lump on kitten

We have an 11 week old kitten who had his first jabs on 4/9. No obvious side affects after but yesterday I’ve noticed a lump slightly to the left of his spine half way down his back.

I phoned the vets who said it’s probably just a lump from the injection site but I just would’ve assumed the injections were done further up his back. Also his injections were over 2 weeks ago so would it be normal for the lump to appear now?

He seems pretty oblivious, I’ve poked it and prodded it and he hasn’t been remotely bothered. Any ideas?

We had the same with my three after their first set of jabs. Went away after about 10-14 days, just in time for the second set of jabs - the lumps didn’t happen that time or with their third set. I put it down to an immune response. Wouldn’t worry - but it’s a good excuse to give them cuddles. !!

Did the lumps come up straight away with your kitties? It’s been over two weeks since he had them so that’s what made me doubt it was the jabs though it does seem the mostly likely answer!

Around about 1-2 weeks later. Roughly half a hand widths below their neck (where you would drops.)
All three went in for jabs together, but it took a week for one of them develop a bump, followed by the other, heavier two about 5 days later. All in exactly the same place and just the one bump- too big and lonely to be a bite - and it would be odd they were all bitten once in the same place!
They all just disappeared between 10 and 14 days after they appeared.
The only other animal they had contact with was their mum - and she would have left a cat sized bite, not that she was anything other than very attentive mum who didn’t carry her kittens at all.

Sorry that should say half a hands width from where you would put drops.

One of our kittens has this. Itmws suggested to us it might be where the chip was put in....I wasn't there so not sure if this is true.

I asked the vet to check it this week when they had their second injection. As I had to leave the cat at the surgery door (due to covid) i don't know if he did but he didn't say there were any issues.

We haven’t microchipped ours - so could be!

Colin had the same but we didn't find it for two weeks, so don't know how long it had been there

Vet said it was probably from jabs and put the second one in a different place

It seems to of gone now but

Op I don’t want to panic you because there may be no connection at all, but my kitten had a pea sized lump exactly where you describe. He then developed a mass in his stomach which was a huge swollen lymph node. The vet then diagnosed Wet FIP. I’m sure your kitten doesn’t have this but please check it out because gd forbid it is that, there is (unliscenced) treatment now but the earlier you start the better the outcome.

Same here, it went eventually.

hi

We have had the same thing with our kitten! He is currently on antibiotics, the lump did start to go down but seems to have grown again now. Our vet is recommending to monitor it and have it out when we get him neutered, although I'm worried what could develop in the next 3 months!

Lump is still here but kitten is totally playful, running around like a loon, wolfing down his dinner and generally being adorable. I did ring the vet again and mentioned FIP but they asked how he was in himself and I when I said he was totally fine they were happy for me to wait until next week to bring him in. The lump isn’t hot or sore that I can tell. Seems to be under the skin rather than on it. I will keep an eye on it and report back when the vet has seen him!
