Blood in cat's poo?

We just got our rescue cat Lola yesterday and she did her first poo this morning which has quite a bit of red in it. Not sure if it's blood and wonder if anyone has had similar with their cat?
I've taken a picture - hopefully no one's having breakfast while reading!

Vet bills can soon run up so I would do a minimum of £4k cover but preferably higher. I'm trying to remember if our cover is £7k or £10k....
Our lad had a 3 night stay in hospital last year, various tests/scans plus medication which cost £2.5k and he was only 2 at the time.

@Vino - I'll have to learn fast.
Boughtbymany have up to £7k of cover with £99 excess for £7.44 pm. Seems very low compared to Petplan which I'd have to pay £12.09 pm for £7k of cover and £80 excess.

I'm with Bought By Many and they paid out easily the time I claimed. I went with them as Petplan was too expensive in comparison especially as I wanted cover for 2 cats

dementedpixie · 19/09/2020 10:51

I pay £21.86 for 2 cats and that gives £15k of cover for each - Bought By Many

dementedpixie · 19/09/2020 10:53

Forgot to say that excess is £69

maggiethecat · 19/09/2020 11:02

@Demented - I'll definitely look at them. Generally, does the excess mean that you pay it each time you go the vet for the year even if for the same condition?

My cat gets this a lot. The vet siad it's gut inflammation because she has chronic diarrhoea a bit like human chrones disease.
She's only ever needed dietary treatment for it as it's not too bad.
But blood in stools should always be investigated.

dementedpixie · 19/09/2020 11:04

I've only needed to claim once so have only paid the excess once. The excess is per claim. Don't know how it works if you claim for the same thing multiple times.

Chemenger · 19/09/2020 11:42

Is the BoughtbyMany policy a lifetime one? Check that if your cat gets a chronic condition they will not class that as an existing condition at renewal.

maggiethecat · 19/09/2020 11:50

It says it's lifetime cover but I will ask the specific question.

I think all of them will exclude any condition that show symptoms or is diagnosed within 14 days of the policy start date.

Yes BBM is lifetime cover

dementedpixie · 19/09/2020 12:01

This is what my policy says:

Total vet fee cover of up to £15,000 each year Lifetime (or ‘yearly limit’) insurance: Vet fee cover limit resets after each renewal; good if your pet develops a long term illness. Premiums may increase each year, and when your pet turns 9 a fixed excess of £69 plus 20% of the cost of each vet fee claim will apply.

maggiethecat · 19/09/2020 12:03

I've just been look at reviews for both insurers and one recurring one for BBM is the annual premium increases. I expect it will depend on a number of factors but fair few said that despite no claim and pet not jumped to higher age bracket premiums had increased by 40-50%.
Will have to take a punt.

Mine only went up a few pounds at renewal despite claiming. Maybe they went into the over 8 year old age bracket?

dementedpixie · 19/09/2020 12:08

I moved from Tesco as the premium jumped after the 1st year despite no claim. Stayed with BBM as their increase was minimal after a claim

maggiethecat · 19/09/2020 12:25

That's good to hear. It will be between BBM and PP - calling them up shortly.

Mine had blood in his when we first got him, but he had travelled over an hour in the car to get to us and made himself sick from stressing out

Leslie2938 · 25/07/2023 08:49

i don’t know why my cat has blood on his poop
he acts normal he runs around I don’t know if it’s because he ate something or his dry food I don’t know please help me.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/07/2023 14:34

My cat had this when I changed her food. It caused colitis. A few days of kaolin paste and back to old food and she was as right as rain. It's never happened since.
