Getting 2 kittens in 3 weeks - looking for advice

We've just put down a deposit for 2 gorgeous kittens which we'll be picking up in 3 weeks. Now I'm panicking that I don't know enough 😅

What do I need to get for them? There's so much conflicting advice online! What do I need 2 of? What I do when I get them home 😱 where do they sleep at night!

We have 3 toddlers who have been round adult cats but not kittens and not in our home.

Thank you

Get two really fancy cat beds! These are essential for your kittens to practice their disdainful looks on - and then will fully ignore. Good luck and post cute kitten pictures.

Remember that whatever anyone writes or tells you as ‘fact’ about cats - will promptly be proved false by your cats.
They will rule you lives no matter how much you think they won’t. Kittens and cats are rulers of humans.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/09/2020 19:35

There are no rules. Cats are the masters of the house and will do as they see fit.

They need at least 2 litter trays.

Keep them on the food they are eating now. Don’t ever buy cat food in bulk. They will soon go off that type.

Keep them in til they are neutered. Watch them take over your life!

How old are the toddlers? It’s not unknown unfortunately for toddlers to harm or kill kittens which is why rescues won’t rehome to people with children under 4.

You’re going to be exhausted supervising them until they are big enough to get away.

poohbear90 · 11/09/2020 00:02

The toddlers are 18 month twins and a 3 year old. They're under constant supervision already!

Crikey. Did you not feel you had enough going on or something?Grin

Tavannach · 11/09/2020 00:40

Keep them in one room with their littler tray, food and water to begin with. I'd treat the toddlers like dogs and introduce them gradually.

yellowgusset · 11/09/2020 00:44

Have two litter trays and food + drink bowls as cats can get territorial and you don't want them falling out.

Get them a high cat tower where they can escape beyond the toddlers' reach.

@Tavannach

Omg you’re brave to type that! If it has been me - I would have immediately been jumped on as “how very dare you compare cats to humans, outrageous” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

But yes, it’s a good way of keeping control of the situation and excitement.

Aww. Lucky you.Don't put their food near their litter tray or they will potty elsewhere. Remember 3-4 meals a day, plus snacks as kittens are always hungry 😁 then finally 2 meals a day (at 6 months). Don't playfight with your hands or feet as once they're older those teeth & claws hurt. A lot. Flea & worm treat monthly, it's £4 a month delivered to you from petsathome. Enjoy ! And pics please!

Thank you :D

I have roped in my MIL to keep the toddlers away whilst we get the cats settled!

Pictures attached (I hope!) - We have names from my eldest, the more white one is Peas and the more black one is Animal

Awww so cute OP! I have two cats and only have one litter tray that they share. When they were babies my mam gave me some brilliant advice imo. They slept in the bath (with the plug in and no water!) until they could almost climb out. I put their litter tray over the plug and their bed the other end, that way I knew they couldn't squeeze into tiny gaps or chew on anything they shouldn't. Once they were a bit bigger, they stayed in the bathroom and slowly progressed to ruling our house.

I would introduce your little ones to their fur siblings quite soon and the more you / they gently handle them the more the kittens will grow to love them. Our cats are now 11 and we have an 8mo...they're not too fond of the baby but they've gotten used to him quicker than I expected.

Laidee · 12/09/2020 21:18

Also my two have always had their food in the general area of their litter tray so imo I think they get used to what "rules" you set out at the start! 😊

Tavannach · 14/09/2020 18:38

@Bargebill19 I think I remember the loon you're talking about - people like that just show themselves up.

Kittens and toddlers are fine together. You can train the toddlers in a way you can't train kittens. Cats generally don't like high-pitched screams.

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 14/09/2020 18:46

My 2 kittens had a bowl for food each, a bed each but shared a big bowl of water, toys and a litter box. Good luck with your kittens, you’ve got all the fun to come Smile

@Tavannach

I’m liking the cut of your jib!!

Op - Peas and Animal are looking fab. Enjoy the rollercoaster of fun!!
