Upset about kittens going to forever homes

Good morning. I feel really silly posting here, just looking for advice from anyone who may have been through this. Our cat who was just a kitten herself had a lockdown accident (was due to be done but then lockdown happened). Unfortunately as it was so hot it felt cruel to keep her in as she was an outdoor cat herself so the inevitable happened and we had kittens. She was a fab mum and kittens adorable but we always knew we couldn't keep them so found new homes when they were a few weeks old. The new owners came to see them every couple of weeks before they were old enough to leave. Myself and DD particularly bonded with one and she was the first to go this weekend. She's a beautiful wee girl and tbh we were absolutely devastated. My DD is so upset and I must admit so am I. She's gone to an amazing home and we are very happy as they are sending pics showing she is settling in well but we miss her! The other kitten is going this week. How can we stop being so upset when we know it's for the best?

So she only had two? So why is it for the best? The mum cat will be upset too. Can't you keep the last one?

Do not be fooled that dcat will give a stuff!! We had 2 queen's who both had kittens - way way back when it wasn't deemed irresponsible... Kept 1 of each litter. Neither dm cared one jot their offspring was still around!!

You thought it was cruel to keep her indoors but having a litter of kittens when she is still a baby herself was an acceptable option Confused

@thecatneuterer unfortunately 2 died shortly after birth. Mum seems to be ok, she has been unsettled the last few weeks as if she just wants to get away from them. DP was adamant from minute we found out that we weren't keeping any, he didn't want a cat in first place!!

@Itsrainingnotmen thank you! It seems like she's not fussed about them now, just wants to play herself. She's booked in for next week to get speyed so she will be happy when she can go out again

@ChickenwingChickenwing I was very naive as thought she was too young, we were told that it was too early to spey her so booked her in and then lockdown happened. Believe me we have been wracked with guilt for months and hindsight is a wonderful thing but thanks for making me feel even better!

Personally I don't get why accidental moggies are less acceptable that breeding pedigrees. Still need homes and still adding to the dcat population.. Rescues full of lovely felines for everyone!!

Neither do I. It's all unnecessary. Like you say, rescues are full. Nobody needs to be breeding cats right now. However the irony that someone cares so much they don't want to let kittens go but they allowed a young cat to get pregnant because it was 'hot' in the house isn't lost on me.

Oh, and there is no 'accidental' about it.

Itsrainingnotmen · 07/09/2020 11:46

I guess like us humans nobody thinks they will get 'caught' only doing it once!!.
Maybe op believes her dcat to have morals!

Well said @ChickenwingChickenwing

I foster kittens and it is tough when one of them steals your heart. All of them have gone to good homes and I love it when people send me update photos but we would be overrun if we kept them all. It passes but it does hurt.

picklemewalnuts · 07/09/2020 17:18

Your young cat may well be happier without her kits. My rescued (when already pregnant) cat moved out because she couldn't stand her kittens and I wasn't fast enough finding them homes.
