Vet or not?

About 4 weeks ago my 1 year old boy came in with a sore looking eye (bit watery and red). Took him straight to the vets and they diagnosed a small ulcer, and gave us chloramphenicol drops and lubricant drops. We didn’t manage to get the full dose in (due to him avoiding coming home! We can’t keep him inside as he gets very stressed), but it resolved very quickly with what we managed, and at a checkup a week later both of his eyes were checked and were fine, no evidence of the ulcer.

Two days ago I noticed his right eye (which had the ulcer previously) had some clear, jellylike gunk in it. Some slight redness, but no other symptoms and it didn’t seem to bother him. I’ve got a vets appointment booked for tomorrow to check it, but as we had the chloramphenicol drops anyway we thought we’d start putting them in again (drops 3x a day). It now looks 100% fine, but we are going to try to get a few more doses in. Now I’m not sure whether to take him to the vets tomorrow or not? It’s not an issue with cost or anything like that... The only reason I am thinking not to is because it stresses him out so much. Wwyd?

This is his eye now. I’ve been staring into his eyes (which he loves, naturally Sad) and I think they look the same. Perhaps slightly redder in the corner on the right one...

Vet or not?

I’d go because eyes are soft tissue and that jelly could be the vitreous humor.

Also, it’s a bh weekend so if it does go wrong it will happen on the Monday when it’s more expensive. Plus you want to know why his eye is getting sore.

I would at least ring the vet and explain the situation so they can advise.

Thanks both. The cost of a telephone consult is the same as an appointment, so I might as well take him in. His eye does look ok, but I’d like to get it checked over. Plus he seems a bit quieter than usual. Well, usually he’s out for 20 hours a day... He’s been in a lot the last few days sleeping, and sleeping downstairs instead of in our bed. As Fluffycloudland says, I would rather go in tomorrow than an expensive OOH on Monday. Hopefully it’s nothing, but worth it for the reassurance.
