Recommendations for cat beds and litter trays

Hello, we are (hopefully!) getting a couple of kittens in a few weeks or so. I want to get all the kit set up so am after any ideas for

cat beds
carriers to bring them home in (do we need two or one big one) and
litter trays.

The plan is that once neutered and vaccinated they will be able to go outdoors but we'll need the litter tray for a good few months at least.

I have been reading up on other threads here about cat litter brands, pet insurance and how to stop the kitties scratching the furniture - lots to think about!
Thanks in advance x

Congratulations! I collected my two now 10 week old kittens a couple of weeks ago. I got kitten litter trays from pets at home - they were £4 each and were low lipped so the little kitties can get in and out easily enough. I bought lovely beds from Amazon which they have a strong aversion to and prefer human furniture to sleep on. I bought a carry bag from zooplus and they both fit in easily though I imagine when they're bigger we might need two.

Start with the same litter and food as what they have been brought up on so far and make changes slowly.

Thanks @MonsteraCheeseplant !
I was secretly hoping they will sleep on me anyway, but thought I'd get the cat beds in case 😁

Are they quite full on and tiring? I am going to be at home for at least the next few months anyway, so will be able to play and cuddle them but the last time I had a kitten I was about 10 so can't quite remember what it's like!!

We bought little cat houses as beds for the cats and they were v popular. One kitten even carried hers round the house and into the garden with her for months.

When we were in bed, they slept in our bed Grin but kittens sleep a whole lot more than humans so the beds were not a waste of money.

Cat carriers - plastic so easy to wipe clean in case of accidents, 2 as kittens grow and eventually 2 cats become v heavy in a carrier.

Also 2 kittens is less work than 1 kitten but risky as it is hard to leave the house as they are sooo cute.

When one of mine was a kitten i couldnt leave her alone she was so tiny and cute and mischievous. She slept on my pillow and i was scared of squashing her. We originally had a normal low lip litter tray like a paper drawer so the little kittens could go in easier. Cat beds were useless as they never went in and we tried everything. They do love the cat tree though as they can climb and scratch it.

Don't bother with cat beds. They'll sleep anywhere but in them. You'll only need one carrier at the moment, as they are small. Be prepared for them to 'disappear' for ages when you let them out of the carrier. Just make sure there are no open windows or doors they have access to. They will appear for food eventually.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 26/08/2020 19:11

@seriouslynonames Actually they're not because they spend a lot of their energy wrestling and chasing each other.

@AnnaMagnani Mine don't seem to sleep much at all!

They do sleep on the cat tree, they adore that thing.

Thanks for all the advice! I will add a cat tree to the list!! I had a look on Pinterest at cat beds and scratching things and spotted lots of big and fun looking cat play equipment - I guess this is what is meant by a cat tree! So excited now! Off to Google some more...

Kittens are such fun. Mine were littles hellions who trashed my net curtains every time I left the house Shock I didn't bother with a kitten litter tray, they're very good at climbing even when they're tiny so if you're going to keep one when they're big (if you keep them in at night) just get an adult one. My two sleep between my knees at night and I'm not allowed to move all night Hmm

I would recommend 1 x carrier each (they soon grow!).

Litter trays, you can pick standard ones up quite cheaply. We have a hooded one, a standard one and one with a lip so that when he poops and digs it doesnt go up the wall/down the back.

Cat beds - I genuinely wouldnt bother - cardboard boxes are a good shout, the end of my bed, on my head and freshly ironed bedding in a laundry basket (waiting to be put away) are all good napping places for HRH Prince Leo.

Cat trees - Leo loves his! We got one from amazon and one from a local independent pet shop.

Don't forget to post pics when they come home too :D

Thanks @samlh and @GreenCat44!

I will def post pics when they arrive!

I was looking on RSPCA website at which plants are poisonous and now I need to add removing a shed load of ivy to the list of things to do....at least they won't be going outside for a while yet!

There is do much more to think about that I first realised!!!
