A pair of kittens

Hi
We lost our beloved cat on boxing day and promised the DC we would look at getting another kitten in the Spring. We have been looking at all the possible adverts since March up to £200 (we would like another Moggy) without success and the rescue places nearby are all still shut.

We have been offered a pair of brothers who are 5 months from a friend of a friend who has to move and can't keep them. We have seen video of them and they look fit and healthy, vaccinated and chipped etc but I have always read that cats are generally happier as lone pets and our previous DCat was our first cat so no experience to fall back on.

Given that these two are litter mates who have always been together, are we likely to have any problems? Is there anything specific I should check?

Thanks

I have 2 cats that are brothers that I've had since they were 8 weeks old (now age 3). They mostly get on well and will play fight together. They are good company for each other too

I have a brother and sister. They're just lcer 1 year now and they love each other. They do wrestle and our boy can sometimes be a bit rough with his sister because hes twice her size. But they snuggle up and groom each other all the time and play together a lot. I've had a lone cat in the past and 2 are much easier.

I have a brother and sister. They are inseparable and curl up to sleep and groom each other. I also have three sister kittens, they sleep, eat, play and groom together.

I wouldn’t choose to have a single cat if I could have a pair or more. They all seem to enjoy each other’s company, they cry and search for each other if one decides to sleep alone!

We have 11 week old sister kittens and they love each other so much. They okay fight and tear around after each other, but still curl up together at night.

Play fight, that should say!

I have three siblings, two boys and a girl.

Mostly they get along and have carved their own space in the house and pit heartWink

They sleep in the same room at night and eat at the same time. Spend time together in the large garden that we have, but are separate beings too.

There is a pecking order- largest boy, middle boy and girl 🤣

Our hearts Hmm

I was looking for another cat after previously having a single cat for 18 years. I ended up with 3-month old brothers, and I am now a total convert to getting sibling pairs (or triplets, dingledongle!). They are less snuggly with each other now they are older but still loving and will give each other a lick as they pass. And having grown up with someone to rough and tumble with means they play more gently with their humans. Go for it! You won't regret it. Pictures are mandatory. Wink

Well they cant be split up can they? They sound perfect and they are at a nice age. My two keep each other company.

Voice0fReason · 25/08/2020 23:31

Cats are much happier in pairs or more - as long as they get on.
Play fighting is normal cat play. My 2 entertain each other constantly.

Thank you everyone. We will go ahead and I will try to remember to update with pics when they arrive.

Exciting😃

I think it totally depends on the cats, and there's no way of predicting how they'll get on as adults. When I was younger we had a pair of sisters who grew up to loathe one another so much that we had to rehome one.

Ibizafun · 31/08/2020 23:08

I would go for it. I have two kittens who aren’t from the same litter but a week after meeting they are inseparable and enrich eachothers’ lives. They are never bored and we can leave them for longer than we could just one.

Sorry missed your update, think it will be fine.
