Me and the husband are picking up this beautiful boy in a couple of weeks! We've both had kittens/cats in the past but when we were younger so our parents did all the work. I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips for us please? I've been reading up a lot on safe spaces for them but if anyone has any tips on how they managed that as well that would be great please! Thank you,

New kitten

Hi, congratulations.

No tips yet as we get our kittens in 2 weeks so following with interest. What does a safe space look like?

We have been told not to use nonclumping litter for a kitten.
No dried food yet.

Do you have a name?

Oh my Goooooooood so cute. Ginger kittens are the best.
Kittens are hard work because they are so lively.
Just like human babies they need lots of love, hugs, cuddle time and kisses..... and playtime and you will be fine.

Thank you! We're calling him Basil!

Agree lots of handling, hugs, cuddles and kisses.
Mine is now 18 months old and still loves them, on her own terms of course. She has only just started to settle down more, so you can expect many months of havoc.
I would not go crazy buying toys or beds, the favourite toy here is still kitchen foil rolled up in a ball and socks.

Lots of love and play, but also being given space when he needs it.

He's gorgeous, congratulations!

Thank you! Would an animal playpen be a good idea? With their food water and litter tray in it? I'm just thinking of when we are asleep or in work I know I'll be worrying. Has anyone used one or do you just let them roam free in a room?

I personally would not use one, others may disagree.
I have always been around a lot when I have had a kitten, not sure about leaving one for long days when so young? Could you get two so they would keep each other company?
They like to be nursed a lot and in fact I used to zip mine up in my fleece and carry her around all snuggled up.
Apart from the first few days when mine slept in a pet carrier with blankets she progressed to the bed.

Get two! Less work.

Kittens need a lot of attention if they're young. I really wouldn't leave him alone while you're at work. Can you get 2 kittens if you have to?

I work from home and got a kitten 1 week ago and she starts screaming if she thinks I've left. Does not like being alone for more than 10 minutes. Would not leave her for more than an hour until she's been here a few weeks.

I have a big cat tree and my kitten loves it. The catit sensory toys are also brilliant, but unless you get 2, you will need to spend a couple hours a day playing with your kitten and getting him things to chase. Once they get past 6 months, cats become the easiest pets on the planet, but before then they're a bit demanding. They can be loud at night and run around destroying everything in sight till they get a bit older though (around age 2-3)! Depends on the cat.

Enjoy him! They get big so fast!!

Get a smallish cardboard box they love jumping in and out of them and sleeping in them. My one year old loves any toys with feathers.

Very cute kitten Grin.

Basil is a great cat name btw. Get a girl kitten to keep him company and call her Sybil.

Tie any blind cords up so the cat can’t hang itself on them and keep the loo seat down.
