Kitten retaining baby teeth.

My 5 month old ragdoll has adult teeth growing but her baby teeth are still firmly in place with no wobble in them.

I googled it and it can cause issues with the adult teeth.

I phoned the vet for advice and they said not to worry just now but to observe for a couple of weeks.

Has anyone else had this issue and how did it resolve?

The photo is taken from an online source since there is no way to get pics of my kitties mouth. It is all four of her pointy front teeth which are affected.

Awww little kitten teefies!

Sorry, I’m no use at all but the kitten pics drew me in.... so il make the excuse of Bumping For You...in the hope someone more knowledgeable comes along. Imagine the vets given good advice though. Grin

She's on the waiting list for neutering right now so hopefully will be seen in the next couple of weeks so they can have a proper look. They are still only physically seeing emergencies (apart from some neuter and vax) so can't take her in before then.

I managed to get a picture inside of her mouth.

Never heard of this but poor little thing! Hope it gets sorted soon.

One of my Siamese had this, thought I was raising a shark. Resolved itself by the time he was about 6 months old

Gingerkittykat · 14/08/2020 21:01

I'm glad to hear it can resolve itself.

I don’t know if this helps - but my older pair of cats didn’t loose all their baby teeth until they were around 7 months. No issues whatsoever and they are now 13.

Lonecatwithkitten · 15/08/2020 07:11

It's not uncommon in if they are still there at 7 months then getting them removed would be a good idea. But from your picture the adult canines are not yet fully descended so I would wait for that to happen as they may push the deciduous ones out.

I'm reassured by your responses, hopefully when she sees the vet for neutering I will get more reassurance.

She has had four teeth fall out in the past few hours, the big back one obviously caused her pain because she yelped when she was eating and there was some blood but that one came out within a couple of hours. There is blood around a couple of the other sockets but they don't seem to be bothering her.

I'm amazed at how quickly this has happened, there's still some more to come out but at this rate it should be over very soon, hopefully it means she will be a bit less bitey!

Poor baby, hope she’s feeling better soon. It must be uncomfortable, though it’s that long since I lost my baby teeth I can’t recall much about it! Grin
