New kitten and I'm itchy :(

I've just got a new kitten and I've started with itchy skin. :(.

I've had cats several times before and never ever had a problem.

It's not driving me mad, but it's enough for me to notice that I'm itchy and uncomfortable. Not red skin or anything, just a vague all over itchiness.

Does anyone have experience of this? I've never had this with a cat before. Is it likely to settle down?

Im already rather attached, so please give me some hope!

What can I do to help? Air filter, more hoovering? Antihistimaines for the next 16 years Sad

Are you sure it's the kitten causing it? Have you checked and treated for fleas?

Ps.kitten pics are mandatory on the litter tray!

I think some allergies to cats seem to go away with regular contact with cats.

My best friend grew up with cats but has never had her own as a pet since leaving her childhood home. When she comes to my house now I have to lock the cats away as she gets a reaction ( itchy skin and eyes streaming )

When I met my husband he always got a reaction to the cats whenever he came to my house but it gradually wore off and now he often walks around with the cat draped around his shoulders.

My daughters friend has a whole other level of cat allergy. She came for a play date but her mum didn't tell me she had an allergy. She touched our cat and her face swelled up. Phoned her mum to come and get her - was quite frightening but an anti histamine helped.

My daughter was like this and we have air purifier upstairs and down stairs..
She also takes antihistamine.
We also do grain free diet for cats as that is meant to reduce the dander they produce.
I also use petal cleanse on the cats and bought a great spray from amazon for carpets that you do once a month. Let. Me know if you want the name.
To be honest she is no where nearly as badly affected now. But I still do these things just in case.
It might just be an initial reaction and all cats can affect people differently.

Purina also have a new food out that is meant to reduce allergy reaction it is called live clear. I remember reading about it when it was in the research phase. It is quite expensive though but I would be interested to hear if anyone has tried it.

This is spray in case others reading thread need this.

Thank you for your replies.

It's good to hear that some people have had an initial reaction and then it settled down. I've had many cats previously, and Ive never had any kind of reaction before.

If anyone can let me know the names of the products they have used and brands etc, that would be brilliant!
