Persistent blood in urine - elderly feline lady

I have just booked a vet's appointment for Weds, but just want to talk to people who know and love cats because am worried and would like to prepare myself.

Cat is 20 years old, lively, playful, affectionate, purry, keen on her food and you wouldn't guess anything was wrong with her - except she has had blood in her urine now for a month. Two courses of antibiotics later to deal with a suspected UTI and it is still there.

Her veterinary history: diabetes, idiopathic epilepsy (she has a seizure about once a year), overactive thyroid. Recent blood and urine tests show her meds are working, all is under control. An ultrasound a short while ago didn't find anything of concern.

Has anyone any experience of anything similar? I am keen to emphasise that despite her long list of ailments, she really is a bundle of joy and love. Very clean, jumping up and down with ease, eating well, still plays with her toys.

Have done a Google search and found kidney stones, kidney cancer as possible causes for blood in the urine that is not resolved by antibiotics. What else should I do? If anything.

Longer than I intended this to be!

I don't know if it's helpful, but my cat had this recently, but also with lots of pain and discomfort, his companion cat had recently died and the stress triggered it. We've used Cystease by feliway, specialist cat food and tried to keep him as stress free as possible, also working on reducing his weight. D-mannose is supposed to be good too, so I have bought some just in case he has another attack.
At twenty years old I think I'd follow the mantra that as long as the cat is happy, pain free and enjoying life, then it really doesn't matter too much if there is something that is untreatable, as quality of life is what matters. I hope she improves, I know how hard it is.

Thanks so much, bodge that is helpful. She is on Cyst-Aid but it really doesn't seem to be doing much so I may do some digging/ask the question about the stuff you mention.

It is true re: as long as she is happy. If they were to find out it is cancer, I don't think I would put her through chemo or surgery, not at her age. I would just try to make her comfortable.

I hope your cat continues to improve! He sounds very well looked after.
