Cat sitting by water bowl

My old cat (aged 20) is always sitting by the water bowl. We have two other cats also and a number of bowls scattered around the house. Not sure if this is some sort of guarding behaviour as all the cats are prowling this particular bowl and looks like they're having a stand off. Has anyone ever seen this before? I know it can be health related just trying to see if anyone has experienced this.

My 19 year old does this, we have no other cats. She has chronic kidney disease 2 and is always drinking loads of water.
She is very protective of the water bowl as a result. Has she had a test, mind you at her age there isn't a lot you can do other than put her on the special diet.

I think if youre worried/noticing other small signs, it's time for a vet trip...

I've an elderly cat with chronic kidney disease who has taken to sitting by the water bowl... To be fair, he's also on tramadol so i think he's just a bit spaced out Grin

In case it's helpful to know this is what my vet advised for CKD - encourage water drinking + special kidney diet or senior cat food (less pressure in kidneys).

He's also prescribed Semintra which apparently reduces the leakage of proteins in the urine, which helps maintain body weight and muscle mass in affected cats. It's a liquid; I either syringe it into cat's mouth or mix it into food.

Cats can still live a long time with kidney disease. Vet told me his cat who had it lived to 22 🙀
