New kitten/cat and baby

Our very beloved cat was killed (fox/dog we think) the same week DD2 was born. He was 11 and we had had him from a kitten.

Although I don't feel ready yet to get another cat as still mourning, at some point I will but timing isn't ideal now of course with a newborn. DD1 is quite a bit older.

What would you do- our cat was fine with children but he was here first iyswim. Am not sure how or when to add a new cat to the family now.

Sorry you post your cat in such an awful way Flowers
It would be better to adopt an adult whose personality has developed. You can tell if they like kids nor not; kittens are more unpredictable. Some adult cats have lived with children so are used to them or they are the right temperament to enjoy living with kids.
A crawling baby and a new cat isn't the best idea so cat would need plenty of places high up to escape. It may also be tricky to adopt with a baby too. Personally, I would wait until your youngest is a little older.
Kittens and small children aren't an ideal combination.

Yes that's the problem- we had ours as a kitten before we had children so he had plenty of time to be the baby of the family!

Sadly I don't think a rescue will home to us as we live on a main road at the front (although cat flap is to rear garden with no access to front due to a spiked fence).

It was absolutely devastating to lose him in the way we did - I can't think about it too much still as I can't believe my poor boy not only died but died a horrible death.
