She has been told by her vet that the incision is larger because her cat is quite fat. But she says she's concerned as it looks quite messy?
Thanks in advance. Appreciate it :)

It does look quite messy. This is my cat after she got spayed a couple of weeks ago

Aww.
Thanks for responding. My friend is quite anxious. I'll message her soon and find out how puss is doing Smile

Christ that is a terrible mess. Our scars are keyhole, unless it was a gravid spay or a pyometra for examples. I'm sure it will heal ok though - even when we have to do big incisions the cats seem to be fine.

Bargebill19 · 15/07/2020 20:19

I think it’s the way the cat is sitting - her leg /knee joint seems to be pushing out her stomach? The scar is more to one side than I would expect. Ours have been zip like down the midline.

Thank you for replying @thecatneuterer. It does look messy I agree but I've seen a fair few so i reassured her it didn't look as if anything was badly wrong.

Thanks @Bargebill19 and everyone else. She was pretty upset about it. It may well look worse the way she's sitting.

Any chance to show her to another vet asap? Poor thing. Must be in pain

Lonecatwithkitten · 17/07/2020 06:57

Whilst it is larger than the average wound it looks well sutured and there is just some dried blood around it ( I zoomed in to get a close look). It is important to remember wounds heal side to side not end to end. So regardless of length of wound it is how well the two edges are allowed that affects healing. These edges are nicely opposed.
The cat may have had a three dose of metacam she could assess pain by wound palpation if the cat does not react to gentle touching around the wound it's pain control is adequate. If it does react she should contact the surgery who did the spay.

Thank you @Lonecatwithkitten :)
@navy my friend says she doesn't seem to be in any pain. I really appreciate everyone's comments :)
