Do your cats fight?

NC4Now · 12/07/2020 00:45

I have two boys - a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old. Always scrapping. Neither seems to get hurt but there are clumps of fur and hissing.
Next thing they are snuggled up like in the picture.
I have two human boys who scrapped as kids, so I’m struggling to tell if they are just being boys or a problem.
Any ideas?

Are you sure it’s not play?.

Proper fights are noisy & they get injured.

That’s just play and training. I’m assuming they haven’t been together that long if one of them is only a year old, and basically still a kitten. Kittens get trained/taught their manners by older cats. It will settle down eventually. They’re gorgeous btw. 😻

Hmm. I have to admit none of my cats have ever played in a way where there's hissing, biting and clumps of fur going missing.

I have three - none of them related and all different ages and sexes and they're always playing. Leaping on top of each other, dive bombing each other, teasing each other - but that's as far as it goes. The big one might give the kitten a warning smack or hiss if he's going too far but I've never been concerned that it's anything more than play.

Mine do, they hiss and lash out with paws at each others faces. Maybe once a week. Usually around food time. Other than that they largely ignore each other.

We have a mother and son aged 9 and 7. None of our other cats through the years were related to each other and there was no fighting play or otherwise.
These two scrap with some frequency with clumps of fur flying. We are now used to it but it did worry us and sometimes we do intervene if it gets too rough.
Either of them will start it. One will be happily minding it’s own business then the other will pounce and off they go. I’m sure it’s play fighting that sometimes gets out of hand.

Your cats look lovely by the way!

I should have said, mine are a litter pair of girls, 7 years old.

Brother and sister here. She hisses a lot at him, he is forever chasing and jumping on her - hence the hissing. He will wander around the house calling for her - she will ignore him... however she loves licking his arse when he's eating and if he does find her when she's asleep somewhere he'll give her a good face wash. Last week he had a claw stick in the back of his neck and she had one missing from her left paw so I assume sometimes she does more than hiss. They used to sleep cuddled up together but now if he tries that she just huffs and goes somewhere else. Apart from the bum cleaning it's all very one sided Grin

I've got 3 cats. One of them doesn't like another one, and would beat her up at any opportunity. I have to keep them separate, which is really inconvenient.

DelurkingAJ · 12/07/2020 11:16

Ours rarely more than tolerate each other and there are frequent fights but no serious damage to date (touch wood). Soppiest cats alive with people but can’t resist jumping on each other’s heads.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/07/2020 11:29

Never more than a quick swipe of the paw. Usually from Snorg to Fatty. She does it a bit with Cheddar, but only very occasionally. No real fights. She saves that for a black and white intruder cat!

NC4Now · 12/07/2020 12:08

This is reassuring. I’m pretty sure it is mostly play, usually started by the kitten annoying his big brother, jumping on his head or diving out from behind a curtain.
They do get a bit rough sometimes which is when I worry, but neither has been hurt.
Big cat has had a couple of fights with outside cats and come home with abscesses but never from scrapping with the kitten.
