New rescue cat - settling in?

I’ve just adopted a 5 year old rescue cat. She is tiny and skinny and has spent most of the day under the bed. She hasn’t used the litter tray or had anything to eat bar a few treats. I’m just after reassurance really that I’m not doing anything wrong! Ive popped in to see her snd she’s had a few nuzzles and strokes on her terms and I’ve offered wet and dry food and water. She’s sniffed at them but I can’t believe that she’s not hungry yet? Help! It’s been ages since my last rescue died and I’ve forgotten how to be a good owner!

My timid (tiny, skinny) rescue spent a few days hiding. I left her alone but put fresh food and water out regularly. She ate just a few treats I’d managed to push under to her but I assumed she crept out to eat when I was in bed. By day 3 when I got up she was on the dining chair so hidden under the table. I pushed the food near and retreated then spied on her and after several minutes she came down to eat then ran back off to hide.

By the end of the week she was tiptoeing round the house but dashing off to hide if anyone moved or came near her but she soon settled in and, after a couple of months, even started sitting on my knee for a stroke. She’s still a bit flighty on occasion but we’ve had her a year now and she is a very happy, pampered kitty. Congratulations on your new addition, she will soon settle in.

Aww @Tarrarra congrats on adopting a rescue. Don’t worry it sounds like you are doing all the right things and sounds really positive so far.

She will just be weary as everything’s new to her and smells different. Just carry on like you are being patient on her own terms. She will eat when she feels relaxed 😊

I’m sure everything will be just fine. My 5 year old rescue took a bit of coaxing, but when she got hungry she came out. She’s just getting used to the sounds and smells. Best wishes with your new cat!

Thank you we’ve just had a bit of a play with a feather fishing rod and she sitting out on her scratch mat. I just needed some reassurance that I wasn’t doing something wrong! Hopefully Will start feeding her up when she’s feeling more comfortable.

I’m assuming she will just use her litter tray when she needs to. She had a look at it but hasn’t used it yet...

Even quite confident rescue cats don’t always eat much in the first 48 hours.
