Evening All

You might remember my thread about the cat con artists who was cadging slices of ham out of DH, despite actually having a loving home. In fact, it turned out he was getting dinner from six different neighbours once I started checking with people.

Well, DH folded last week and said we could take on our friend’s cat (she’s emigrating so needed someone to take Dcat).

DCat is now ours and is glorious. Many thanks to gigalo cat for making DH see that we needed a cat in our lives.

BUT I haven’t had a cat since I was a teen and have forgotten a few bits. How long do we need to keep her in for? She’s 9, so no spring chicken. And also a very outdoor cat.

She’s also still a bit off her food. It’s day 3 and she seems quite settled apart from the eating.

Any advice?

Congratulations!
CP advise to keep them in for a minimum of 4 wks. Is it the same brand of food she was used to?

Congratulations!
Make sure you get her microchip updated with your details.

BelleSausage · 06/07/2020 06:16

Yes, same food brand. My friend gave me all her stuff. So she has all her old blankets and food and littler tray.

I’m going to call today about getting her microchip updated.

I’m not sure she’ll last four weeks inside! She’s a rural cat and used to being outside all day. I think she’ll have chewed through the wall by then!

I thought the 4 weeks was about her getting used to your smell so that she can find her way back. I could well be wrong about that though.

Is she neutered, and are vaccinations and flea and worming treatments all up to date?

BelleSausage · 06/07/2020 19:16

She is neutered and all vaccinations and treatments up to date. My friend took care of all that before she brought her to us.

She’s eaten properly today. So she must be feeling a bit more at home. And she’s got her own spot on the sofa now. And is very comfortable in trying to shred the leather sofa Confused

We are on the edge of a village and fairly rural. I think I’ll try two weeks and then start going out in the garden with her for an hour at a time (with treats to entice her back in).

You need a word you say only when she’s getting a treat so she knows when you call it at 2:30am in your dressing gown that it is time to come in.
