Had a rough year. Lost my boy to an infection and a good friend died.

Wanted another cat for my remaining girl.

She arrived today and is adorable ! (Called Gizmo)
Just wondering how to introduce the kitten to the cat. I've always had kittens in pairs before.

She is ADORABLE .

Do the introductions slowly. Swoerate rooms for a few days. Se8rate food bowls and litter trays.

Separate

I'm using the spare room down stairs for kitten (usually shut so cat doesn't go in there ever) and cat has free roam of the house.

I introduced them for 5 minutes - both spitting with backs arched. They have looked through the window at each other too.

Is it best just to have them together for a few minutes at a time over the coming days ?

It will just take time. I had the window staring with mine too. I think it took a week before they could be in the same room. Now they just blank each other.

I did out them in the same room for short periods with me holding the kitten while the cat went like a banshee. The older one will be put out as it's their territory but it does calm down.

Feed them either side of the door so they can smell each other - apparently the food gives them good vibes so they associate each other’s smell as a ‘good thing’

OMG! She is gorgeous....such a cutie

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/07/2020 15:43

She’s very cute but they shouldn’t have met yet.

Look at Jackson Galaxys videos on YouTube, he does an introduction one.

Kitten upstairs, big cat downstairs with gentle introductions. We got her at 8 weeks, she's now 15 weeks and they're good mates. He's taught her how to cat, including learning to play fight without teeth and claws involved. He's taught her manners so she knows when to leave him alone. Watch her with the kitten food though - my boy has got a bit porky! He doesn't get to it now.

@Fluffycloudland77 thank you. That was a good watch. Hope I haven't ruined it !

@Mabelface I am hoping old will teach new how to cat. I'm okay if they don't become friends.

One other question what do I do about the cat flat and kitten getting out? Old cat hasn't used a litter tray in years and comes and goes as she pleases.

I have the cat flap at so Wilson can come in but we have to let him out during the day. He's got used to this quickly. Night time, Nessa comes upstairs and I own the flap fully. When she was smaller (before she could jump on the work surfaces, I had the kitchen window open for him.

You could get a microchip activated cat flap so it'll only open for the cats registered. At first you could register older cat and it'll stop kitten from using it

No advice either but Awwwwwwwwwwwww

AlCalavicci · 05/07/2020 03:14

Try using a old odd sock or some such thing to stroke each cat ( one sock each ) then put it in the other ones space so they can get use to the smell , do the same with any toys they have .
