Ear mites

We have taken in a kitten from a neighbour who decided that after a week the kitten wasn't working out... I've given her flea treatment but I think she might have ear mites. She's only 9 weeks old. Any idea how I can treat them?

Get her checked by a vet and they will diagnose and advise treatment. What flea treatment did you use as over the counter ones are often ineffective

Frontline (fipronil) works on ear mites, check with your vet first though.

Frontline isn't supposed to be very effective against fleas in many areas though

I use stronghold plus for fleas and it also treats ear mites and some worms. It is prescribed by the vet

I got a drop treatment for ear mites and some drops for my kitten during lockdown with just a phone appointment

I know that there is reported resistance to fipronil, but it's what my vet recommended for ear mites and I have to say it worked. Vet also used the frontline spray on very young kittens with lice.
I use frontline plus that kills fleas in the environment too, and I have to say I have had no problems with it.

You need a vet to diagnose it and prescribe, 9 weeks is so tiny and you don’t want to inadvertently harm her.

If nothing else they can confirm her sex and start her inoculations.

The vet will give you some hideously expensive drops. That they will shake all over you!

I useJohnsons Ear Mite drops..... their £4 and worked for our cats

Frontline ( fipronil) does have a licence or evidence support it's use for ear mites. Stronghold does treat ear mites.
Cats have very sensitive ears and their middle ears are more delicate than dogs. If you have not had the ears check by a vet for a rupture ear drum and put ear drops in it can lead to permanent damage.
No over the counter ear drop has drugs that can kill ear mites ( this requires a combination of steroid, antifungal and antibiotic as a drop).
