Hello

My cat had her first litter on Thursday evening, but its just a single kitten! Apparently its uncommon but not unheard of. Shes a small cat anyway and only 18months old.

Do we need to do anything differently as he doesn't have playmates etc to learn from, just his mum?

Thank you

Anything differently?
How about a thread with pics for one!!??

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/06/2020 12:09

Why wasn’t she spayed at 4 months?.

BlueTreeBlue · 20/06/2020 12:37

Her first litter? Are you planning to get more litters out of her? You don’t sound experienced enough to be a breeder.
It’s not that uncommon for a cat to have one kitten. Please do get her spayed and the kittens as well when they’re old enough.

No, I arnt planning on anymore litters, clearly first litter means she hasn't had any before, not im planning more afterwards?

Shes a very small cat so we had to wait longer till she reached the reached the right weight, we then ended up having a really rubbish few months and a house move so it just got delayed. She was book in for April and then all the vets shut, we tried to keep her in as much as possible but with having 2 young children and very hot weather, the odd door/window got left open and she got out .

I didnt come here to be attacked. I came for some advice. Id read so much about what to expect, and what we need to do but 1 kitten litters arnt that common so there isn't a lot of information about the effects of not having siblings may have on their behaviour. I was looking to see if anyone had any experience.

Kitten will learn from there mum and as the kitten grows up. They pretty quickly but not attacking please get mum done soon as kitten is weaned and then kitten at 4 months old. Had my kitten done at 4 months and no problems what so ever. Dont forget vaccines flea and worming to. Some vets do a animal health care plan where you just pay a amount each month and includes flea n worming and vaccination. Also discounts in store n many other things to.

SpiritEssence · 20/06/2020 13:59

Mean to say they learn pretty quickly

natt256 · 20/06/2020 14:02

Thank you. Im ringing the vets on Monday to see about getting her spayed as soon as she is ready and will definitely be getting baby done too.

We have a pay monthly plan in place for mum so will get that for baby also.

Thank you for the advice.

Aw! Hope everything goes well for the little chap. He'll have his mum all to himself!

SpiritEssence · 20/06/2020 16:48

Get a heating pad for the kitten, you can get one that goes in the microwave. If mum isn't with it all the time it can get too cold. Hot water bottle wrapped in a blanket will do until you can get one.

Many years ago my family cat had just one kitten in her only litter (she was spayed after). We were delighted because we got to keep her, and she grew to be a gloriously large, glossy, beautiful, pampered girl, with a really lovely temperament. Mum will teach the kitten everything it needs and give it undivided attention. Enjoy! Smile

Sounds like this will be a privilege kitten

Now lockdown is easing the vets are opening up to doing spays my neighbour's had her two bunny done yesterday
