Toy to tire 1 year old cat out?!

My cat who has just turned 1 seems to have a mad couple of hours every evening, during the day he’s perfectly chilled!
Can anyone recommend a toy to help tire cats out?! Or any tips of how to calm cats down of an evening?!

Anything with catnip in works here

We call that time Going Crack Cat. I don't know if there's anything which will tire out a young cat, but mine like interactive toys like an egg-shaped container with holes in it for favorite treats to spill out. They'll roll that thing around until every single treat is eaten and keeps them occupied. (Freeze-dried chicken is a favorite.)

A friend has a fishing rod with a catnip rat on the end of the line which he uses to cast down the hallway. So far his cats love it, but I'd be a little concerned about their paws being cut on the plastic line.

A laser pointer is always good, and mine will play forever with one of those little cellophane-wrapped butterscotch hard candies. :-)

If nothing works, just sit back and laugh. And put away anything breakable!

Another cat! My two spend the twilight hour chasing each other around the house like loons!

If not another cat, we bought a toy on a stick it is a little stick with a long elastic and on the end a soft toy lion. Our two love chasing it.

We bought a Purrsuit wand toy, with multiple attachments. The feather ones never got a reaction from the cat but she goes absolutely bonkers for the little worm attachment. Plus the wand is nice and long so your fingers are safe. I managed to fling it up and down the stairs in an effort to wear her out. 😂

We’ve just bought this for Mog. He normally refuses to have anything to do with things designed for cats but he loves this. He also adores his tunnel

Ping pong balls! Our lad has a small catnip fish (Yeeoow brand I think) which he loves, he likes their catnip cigars too.
Kickeroos are good but ours isn't interested in his.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/06/2020 22:00

Anything you can throw up the stairs so they chase it.

eurochick · 10/06/2020 22:02

Rolled up silver foil. The remains of our Easter egg wrappers are still being chased around our house.

Windyatthebeach · 10/06/2020 22:03

A dkitten...

NewName54321 · 10/06/2020 23:00

Rolled up silver foil.

DCat batting hers about yesterday afternoon, hit it too hard and bounced it off the skirting board. As it rebounded, she fled thinking it was chasing her and, judging by the racket, only just escaped with her life by crashing out into the garden via the cat flap.

Meanwhile, I tried to continue with my wfh video call...

A couple of minutes later, she snuck back in, keeping a very wary eye on the now-still silver ball, and took herself back to bed for a sulk.

He'll probably like anything with catnip, something on a string, something he can chase down the stairs. However be prepared for him to still have a mad turn. It's the mad half hour in this house although it's not always half an hour haha.

Time2change2 · 10/06/2020 23:06

Mine used to do this couple of hours of absolute crazy energy. After playing for ages with her with other toys ie toy nice on strings and things on the end of a stick, I used to get those little dry fish (the ones made safe for cats to eat) tie some string round it and dangle it just within reach, hanging from something. Sit back and watch whilst she jumps and prances for an hour enjoying getting it down to eat

YinuCeatleAyru · 10/06/2020 23:11

ping pong on a stick

not officially a cat toy but guaranteed to be their favourite activity.

(you don't need the paddles)

violetbunny · 11/06/2020 10:37

I recommend a playmate... our two cats are a year old and keep each other occupied Grin

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 11/06/2020 19:36

A cat dancer. So cheap and the favourite in our house.

BlueTreeBlue · 11/06/2020 20:23

Yes to cat dance! Such a plain toy but works very well. The best price is on Zoo Plus.
Different cats like different things so you need to get yourself a selection. I would go for a cat dance (order 2 or 3 because the cardboard bit goes quickly), a laser, a tunnel and one of those circuits. There are special toys to leave out at night which are stimulating for them but not noisy. Glow in the dark balls etc.

C1239 · 11/06/2020 21:37

I’m thinking of trying some spray catnip on toys, at the moment he shows little interest in any toys, more interesting in using the furniture as an assault course!!
