Distraught over missing cat

Hi everyone,

I am beside myself... our beloved 9 year old Birman cat, Flora, has been missing since Monday night. Am aware it’s not a really long time but this is not like her at all as she only usually goes in the garden or near next few houses.

We live in a dead end street very quiet and have asked all neighbours to look in sheds, garages etc but no sign. I have contacted our vets plus another local practice but no cats have been brought in and they have shared photos of her on their social media. I have also posted on a local neighbourhood site and put up some posters.

I just can’t understand what could have happened and am struggling to deal with the fact she may never come back and I will never know what happened. I’m worried she may have been stolen...

Does anyone have any words of comfort?

Hi,
You need to go out and actively search for her. Shake her food if you have dry food, call her. Don't give up, but don't wait for her to return. Actively search. She could be lost or trapped. Mine was missing for three weeks. He would never have found his own way home.

@BovaryX thanks we have been doing that too but no sign, will try again tonight. Where was yours trapped?

He wasn't. He was lost and had wondered several miles. He would never have found his own way home.

@BovaryX Oh I see. That’s good you managed to find him. I think it’s unlikely ours has gone far but possible I guess

It's the worst feeling OP. Ours was missing for 8 days once and we found him. There is hope!

Put their litter tray/bed/blanket/contents of your hoover outside so that they can follow their scent home.

Put stinky wet food around the boundary of your property.

Post on Facebook local pages, Petlog, community websites, gumtree etc with a photo, date last seen and location, and your contact details. Contacting social organisations for the elderly including church groups are often very helpful and kind.

Print posters with a photo, date last seen and location, and your contact details.

Put posters/flyers with above information through neighbours doors asking them to check sheds, garages and out buildings.

Contact all local vets, RSPCA and PDSA asking them to keep an eye out.

Go out at night when it is very quiet and still to call for them and listen. (this was what eventually brought my cat home).

Knock on doors with your flyers and put a human face to your missing cat. Neighbours are often more likely to check their sheds of help you look when you’ve spoken to them.

Pumpkin
Don't give up, that's the best advice. Can you knock on doors and search? She could be in a shed. Trapped somewhere. Go out around dusk and call her. It helps to know she would be home if she could, so either lost or possibly trapped somewhere. Good luck!

Have you tried your local Cat’s Protection League? We took in a lost cat recently (owners had moved house). They put up a photo of him on their Facebook page and owner contacted Cat’s Protection literally within minutes. They will also post a photo of the lost cat in case someone has seen one hanging round or has taken in what they think is a stray. Good luck.
