New cat, new name?

I’m adopting a 5 year old cat tomorrow. Yay! But I don’t like her name. Can I change it or just leave it be?

I agree that they learn words. Our old cat knew the word “cuddle” (and would only occasionally acquiesce to one!) This little girl is responding well to Vesper. I say it every time I see her and I make a point of talking to her and using it in a soft/friendly tone.

Our cats will sit - amazing how treats can train them!

inappropriateraspberry I'd always had dogs growing up, DP had always had cats, and insisted that there was no way to train a cat. I did it in exactly the same way I would train a dog, just to prove him wrong! She is very smart, and very greedy.

They're def smarter than dogs, they just choose whether to use it or not! Usually to their advantage.

Vesper is a great name for a cat I have never meet one yet - I like unusual pet names.
I adapt rescued pets names so Daisy became Daisy dude then dudetta.
Tuti became Tuti Frutti and then Frutti.

Dudetta is too funny. I think lots of us end up having multiple nicknames for our cats. I named Vesper thinking “cool James Bond girl” but then my friend connected it to Hespera and the evening star (Venus), which suits her as she’s a Midnight party queen.
