Kitten litter choices

Hi all

We have just brought home our new kitten and to start us off we have purchased the Catsan hygiene plus litter as that is what she has been using and I didn't want it to be unfamiliar. I want to gradually change the litter over. Ideally a clumping, biodegradable litter that can go in the food/garden waste bin outdoors.

Can anyone make any recommendations please?

You would have to check that your local council have the facility to deal with it first of all.
I use wood based cat litter and dig a hole to put it in so it rots down quickly but it’s starting to becom a struggle tbh as my garden isn’t huge.

“Advice from the Environment Agency suggests that householders should
carefully wrap any pet waste and place it in the domestic refuse. There is
biodegradable litter available on the market, so this could be composted
(depending on the facilities locally available) but faeces should be
removed to prevent disease; indeed solid items must be wrapped and
disposed of via domestic refuse. Pet waste generated on commercial
premises (such as a cattery) should have separate trade waste collection
and disposal and be paid for.

However, waste management and collection is considered a local issue by
Defra, and local authorities are responsible for operating services in
their respective areas. Indeed, the Environmental Protection Act 1990
(EPA) places a statutory duty on a waste collection authority to do so.
The EPA also empowers the authority to specify the size, construction and
maintenance of the receptacles to be used. Defra does not intervene in
this area. As such, you are best advised to contact your local council
again in order to seek clarity on this issue.
