Neighbour showering me in poo?

Just before lockdown I moved into a new rented flat with a garden. I have two very timid cats who were kept in for the first few weeks but are now starting to explore. They never go far - they are home every 30 mins or so and can always be called back by Dreamies.

This afternoon I was reading on the garden when suddenly what seemed like mud and moss showered down on me. I realised iy was my neighbour who was digging up mud - and poo - and chucking it over the wall at me. "If your fcking cats keep fcking sitting in my garden...." "the council will fine you over £500"* etc
I tried to talk but a) I couldn't get a word in edgeways, and b) I can't even see the person as I am disabled and I can't stand to look over the wall. He just kept shouting and throwing stuff and threatening.

I don't know what to do? I don't doubt that it is annoying, but given I clear up at least one poo from the litter tray indoors every day, I don't know how to stop them occasionally pooing elsewhere? I feel afraid, and very afraid for my cats as I haven't had anybody so angry with me before. I'm shielding ( and a wheelchair user) so I can't go round and pick up any poo for him, but I would gladly take it if he leaves it by my door?

I was enjoying my beautiful new garden - the only outside world I have seen since late February - and I am now really shaken. Can he throw poo at me? Can he report me? Help!

Ring the police and report, and can you get any cctv for your garden? incase anything else happens.

Thanks all.

Just to clarify a few things: the neighbour did know I was there - I was talking to my carer before he began throwing things (poo arrived before the shouting started!). He may not have known I was a wheelchair user, but perhaps just sat down - although he has repeatedly seen uniformed carers. I did shout out when the poo landed, and the carer asked him to stop, and said there was no need for this etc, but he just kept shovelling stuff over.

I have contacted the local police and an officer should be calling me back later and I can ask for advice moving forward.

I will look into so many ideas - thank you - but for now neither me or the cats will go out as i just feel unsafe and intimidated. He deliberately threw stuff at me whilst shouting and swearing, and I found that very upsetting.

Thanks for all the advice

Oh, and to add, he could have thrown the poo over the ale all but into the garden. Instead he threw it straight at us - it landed in my carer'w hair (he was bent over to do a shoelace when it started) and in my lap. He didn't try to avoid us at all.

I'm absolutely disgusted that someone would do that to you. I'm just so sorry you had to go through that! Glad that you and the cats are ok, and atleast you have your carer as a witness too!

I did shout out when the poo landed, and the carer asked him to stop, and said there was no need for this etc, but he just kept shovelling stuff over.

This is important.
He was aware he was targeting you and your career. He was asked to stop and didn’t.
That is assault and you should let his housing provider know once you have a crime number to make a complaint to them.
I find that’s often more effective than police intervention and faster.

Ulver · 27/05/2020 13:37

Not to say you shouldn’t continue with prosecuting him because you most definitely should.
It’s a serious assault imo.

Cat spikes? I know some cats happily walk over them though

And some cats who jump down onot them without realising they are there end up with holes on their foot and £500 vets bill

If you are going to use spikes there are rubber ones available, not those nasty shit ones linked to

OrcharD14 · 27/05/2020 16:09

The behaviour of your neighbour is beyond vile & I hope that he can be prosecuted ; I’m shocked that some posters were minimizing his actions. It’s good that you have your carer as a witness. As a pp said, he targeted you for your vulnerability. I’m so sorry that you now feel unsafe in your own home & can’t use your garden, particularly when you’re shielding.
Sending you my very best wishes. Please keep us updated as so many of us are outraged on your behalf.
Stay strong. X
