Has anyone had any experience using these for cats or dogs? Been advised to start them to help with cat spraying.

My Asbo had them but for spraying Cystease works out much cheaper and is made by the same people.

Why is puss spraying?.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/05/2020 20:25

I have used them, not sure if they had any effect. But my parents found them useful for calming down their very highly strung cat.

Well you may remember... 🤔 that stray cat we built the cat house for (he had the funny eye that we helped him out with) we think it might be his scent he can smell? I'm not sure, we have moved things around in the house aswell as i'm pregnant and we're getting the baby room ready and have bought new things. Other than that i'm not entirely sure but it's always around 3am and it's starting to get to me a little! Any other ideas why he could be doing it?!

Oh that’s a lot of change if he’s a sensitive boy.

The vet offered mine amitriptyline if the cystease didn’t work.

Does he like his litter?.

Allergictoironing · 23/05/2020 23:32

I've used Zylkene on occasion with my nervous ex-ferals, e.g. on the run up to bonfire night or NYE, and prior to their annual vet visit. It didn't seem to make a massive difference but definitely somewhat calmer when I've been using it than when I haven't. I've used it in combination with Feliway as well, and that seems to be the best option

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/05/2020 06:47

I used to liken it to a single measure gin and tonic. Enough to take the edge off, not enough to get you out of it.

Oldestchild90s · 24/05/2020 20:53

@Fluffycloudland77 he's a tough cookie but very very affectionate and loves his time with me 🥰 i just find it weird that when we go to bed it's his time to mess about and spray, do all cats do it at night? In terms of the litter it's never been a problem! I've started the capsules, i'm not sure how long it takes to work but last night was the worst so far 🤦🏼‍♀️ i'll try the other one if this doesn't help!

My old dog had them. They worked, dh always knew if I’d run out for a few days and that the dog was off his meds as he’d attack dh! Cheaper on Amazon.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/05/2020 19:01

Where is he spraying?.

What does he do in the day when he needs to wee?.

Oldestchild90s · 25/05/2020 20:01

Day 2- these things don't seem to be helping, maybe they take days to work?!

@Fluffycloudland77 i'm not sure, they do have trays but my partner has been furloughed so instead of them being in all day whilst we're at work they have been out all day while he's been at home.. would this have any input? So at the moment our cats aren't using their trays much. Last night it was in the corner of the bathroom, a few days ago it was on my chest of drawers, a few times it's been on the odd carrier bag. If he can't get into a room he'll jump up and open the door 🤦🏼‍♀️ Seems to be in random places but he trots around the house around 3am meowing trying to find the right spot to do it in.

Oh i don't know, i love him so much but it's really starting to get to me now.

Iirc they take 7-14 days to take effect.

JacobReesMogadishu · 25/05/2020 20:04

Have you tried feliway in the meantime? That works a bit quicker?

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/05/2020 20:58

Could you try another tray upstairs with ultra clumping litter in it?. A nice deep layer?.

Oldestchild90s · 27/05/2020 20:45

So, bought another tray and put that upstairs, i witnessed him going to the loo in it this morning too! He was in a fight last night so he has been sulking a little but he seems quite calm now, just hoping it stays that way. Although he woke me up in the night i cant find or smell (yet) any spray marks so fingers crossed he's stopped doing it for now. Got the feliway plugged in too so lets hope it all helps. Thank you.

Lets not speak to soon.

Personally I don’t think they’ll be happy till they’ve got a tray in each room & cat flaps in every door.
