Transporting your cats abroad

Does anyone have any recommendations for reliable companies that can help transport cats overseas (in this case to the Channel Islands).

Is there any benefit of flying rather than going by sea? (I'm guessing the length of time makes flying preferable).

I've had two quotes so far, one by air and another which looks to be by sea, but there didn't seem to be that much of a difference in price.

I think you can do it yourself direct with the airline. It will take longer than a normal flight as they have to check the cats ok after the flight.

You’ll need an airline approved carrier but if your flying somewhere you might want to come back at some point so you’ll need it again.

We had airline approved carriers to take our cats in the car when I was little.

@fluffycloudland77 thanks, i hadn't thought of flying them myself. Will look into that! and good point re the airline approved carrier and it being needed again.

I just feel that flying will help get it over and done with - a few less hours of stress for them - but i may be mistaken. One of them is such a nervous little thing, and currently underweight (11yrs and 3kg - having lost a kilo in a year) so i'm really worried about her getting too stressed.

I suppose if you flew out of Exeter that might be quicker? Is there a closer airport?.

I wonder if you say she’s your emotional support cat you’d get to keep her next to you.

My Mum took her cat to Spain on the same flight she was on, apparently a light attendant told my Mu the cat was definitely on the plane as they could hear him meowing (not sure how true this is)

She couldn't fly from her local airport as thye didnthave this service so had to got to a further away one, and they had to be there at a ridiclous time ahead so the cat did spend a long time in the carrier, and obviuosly at the other end had to wait a while. But it seemed to go ok
