Help me rig up the cat like a reindeer

DC1 has turned into a bunny slaughtering machine. We had dozens of dead or about to be dead bunnies over a two week period. In an attempt to stop the slaughter we got her a collar with several big arse bells. This worked! But alas she hates the collar and has ripped all her fur out around the collar. Anyone got any bright ideas about how to attach bells to a cat without a collar?

I thought you meant dc1 rather than dcat, I was getting worried about the bunny killing obsession.

Harness instead of collar?

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2020 03:31

I thought you wanted to put reindeer antlers on the cat!! You could try it to see if she prefers them to the collar!

Eggybreadleg · 17/05/2020 09:51

Does anyone know of a breakaway harness? All the ones I can find are meant so that the cat can't get them off. I'm worried she could get tangled in a hedge and not be able to break free.

Take it off, it’s upsetting her a lot if she’s ripping fur off. She’s not doing anything wrong.

All you can do if you live in an area with rabbits is keep her in dusk till dawn.

I’d imagine baby rabbits have a fairly high predation rate as rabbits produce sizeable litters frequently.

Take the collar off in the house only bell her up when she goes outside?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/05/2020 18:10

Our male cat just trotted in through the catdoor with the dreaded something in his mouth

He dumped it on the floor (probably wondering why we all went Whoah and wanting to be rewarded with Well Done You and peace to devour his prize )

I knew this day would come .
Up till now they've brought in worms and magpie feathers .

Today was a dead sparrow . Hopefully he won't bring an entire magpie .

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/05/2020 18:28

Their endangered though so he did well to find it in the first place.

I was looking forward to some kitty dressing up pictures here!

There are harnesses used for leashing, but I don't know how safe it would be, seems like it would get caught on things.

considering farmers shoot bunnies, I wouldn't be worried about their demise.

Is this what you're after ? Grin

Aww that cat is thinking some seriously deep thoughts there Xmas Grin

If my boy wore that , the Fat Pigeon he is stalking would fall out the tree laughing , straight into the cats' open mouth.

He tried to supplement his diet with the Resident Robin. That was a don't think so Sonny Jim !

Why does she eat their faces!? Wtaf! She's now stashing faceless bunnies in the playroom toy organiser. I've ordered a new wider collar to see if it helps with the chaffing. But the bells have to go back on.

Why does she eat their faces!

She does have a touch of the Hannibal Lecters about her Shock

My old cat used to like the soft underbelly of sparrows so we'd find wings, heads, bums+legs around the house .

She might be hiding the faces rather than eating them, and leaving the bodies in plain sight just to creep you out ?

Make sure you worm her if she's a hunter - our vet said mousers rather than birders were more at risk . Many years ago a friend had a farm/house cat who caught bunnies for her kittens . Watching one of the kittens yakking up a live tapeworm was not a sight I'd want to revisit .

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/05/2020 09:23

You won’t stop her, their ambush predators. By the time Peter rabbit hears the bell she’s already got him.

Our 14lb white chinchilla Persian was a brilliant hunter. You would think being huge and bright white would hold a cat back but it didn’t.

Eggybreadleg · 23/05/2020 13:04

The bells work really well. It's just finding a collar doesn't make her want to rip out her fur.

What sort of collar did you use

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/05/2020 13:09

I wonder if there is a market for kitty squeaker shoes that also light up like those annoying toddler ones.
