Switching kitten food to Hills

Hello, we're 3 weeks in to kitten ownership and have a gorgeous pair aged 13 weeks. When we got them from the rescue home they were eating Whiskas & Purina dry food. A friend recommended Hills so have just got their dry food and pouches but am a bit confused. The pouches just have amounts for kittens aged 7-12 months on the box, so am not sure how much to feed them. I normally don't bother weighing out their dry food but just make sure they always have some in the bowl and then give them 2 pouches of wet each a day (split over 3-4 meals) - think the boy is eating more but they seem pretty happy. Should I give them roughly the same amount with Hills? Sorry very specific question!

Maybe the pouches arent for kittens then. Does it say it's for kittens?

dementedpixie · 14/05/2020 22:08

Although I didn't weigh out food when mine were kittens

It does say they're for kittens under 1. I'm mixing with Whiskas for the first few days anyway so will just try and judge by what they're eating. They're pretty slim so not too worried about over feeding!

Where are the kitten photos Stokey?

Ha, fair point. Blue eyes is the girl, brown eyes the boy, they're super cute.

They are cute.

I gradually introduced Haribo to Hills dried whilst he ate Whiskas kitten pouches but he's now nearly 11 months old and has some Whiskas adult wet food from a tin. He developed the fuss and will only eat the salmon flavour which luckily I can get individual tins from the local shop.

All my previous cats were fed Hills dried but one developed struvite crystals and it's for that reason Haribo has wet food too although he is a good drinker.

I'm mixing. So I have a bowl of dry out all the time and then giving them Whiskas 3 times a day. Good to know about drinking, have noticed the girl drinking quite a bit but she seems to eat more of the dry food. I over ordered on kitten food this week as had a late delivery so have another 24 packets of Whiskas to get through now so will leave the Hills wet for a week or so. They do seem to be mainly eating all the jelly.

The girl looks to be a force to be reckoned with!. Love your kitchen by the way.

If they eat the jelly but not the meat it’s often a sign that it’s not very nice meat and they don’t like it.

Thanks Fluffycloudland , we only finished it in November and had told the DC that we would consider getting a kit after it was over. Then lockdown came along and it seemed like the perfect time as we're all at home. It's been lovely to settle them in properly. Interesting about the meat, the Whiskas is rubbish! They do eat it eventually but definitely go for the jelly first. It's why I want to switch to something with a higher protein content.
