Poorly kitten won't stop vomiting

We have a kitten we got shortly before lockdown, first time cat owners.
Came down this morning and she had been sick once, for the first time we had ever witnessed (although she had some diarrhea a few weeks ago we contacted the vets about, via WhatsApp video).
She's been fine all day, bouncing round the garden, but then at about 9pm vomited again. Since then I'd say she's vomited 8-9 times in the last hour and a half. She doesn't seem massively distressed, although she is sat on the floor which is unusual for this time of night.

Never having had a cat before, I don't know how concerned to be? I'm not even sure what the emergency vet situation is in lockdown?

She is a very inquisitive kitten who is very, er, unfussy about what she eats, for reference. Wasps, cobwebs, bubble bath, all fair game as far as she's concerned.

I'm planning on bringing a blanket downstairs to sleep on the sofa so I'm in the room with her, DH clearly thinks I'm mad....

She is now only vomiting liquid, I guess she's emptied her stomach. And I've refilled her water bowl and put it near her

Can you call a vet and ask advice? I have no experience but doesn’t sound good for a small animal. She will become dehydrated quickly.

GuppytheCat · 09/05/2020 22:51

Ring the vet. They’ll have an out of hours number. That much sickness in a young kitten sounds worrying.

One bout of vomiting might just be worms or hair balls or stuffing herself too quickly, but not eight or nine.

Ring a vet now. Otherwise she could well be dead by morning.

She's stopped now, for about 45 minutes and is back to sleeping in her normal spot. We have been advised to keep an eye on her and call back if it gets worse again. Guess that's me on the sofa all night. Feeling pretty worried. She's also just done a wee in her tray which the vet said was a good sign

Yes, a wee is a sign that she’s not too dehydrated. Another test is if you pinch up the scruff skin, does it ping back quickly (good) or go back more slowly (bad)?

I’m guessing that she’s eaten something that she shouldn’t —plant/dead rodent, whatever.

There are lists of plants toxic to cats (and we appear to have most of them). Lilies are particularly bad but there are plenty of other things she’ll wish she hadn’t chewed.

After a very hot and uncomfortable night on the sofa I can report that the kitten seems absolutely fine, bouncing around, purring, drinking, and has eaten the tiny bit of food I have given her.

I figured I'd just keep her food amount minimal, top up her bowl, and keep her inside for a few days.

It's almost certainly going to be something she's eaten, she isn't very discerning. No lilies in our garden but I can't vouch for what she's eating when she disappears over the fence I guess I just have to hope she grows out of it? (She's seven months old)

Of you do feed her today, keep it to small amounts and as bland as possible. Boiled fish and a bit of rice mixed together. Nothing too rich. I'm sure the heat hadn't helped either.

GuppytheCat · 10/05/2020 08:26

So glad she seems fine! Yes, keep her in for a while - you can check what’s coming out the other end that way, and also have a rummage round the garden for anything obviously hazardous.

Thanks for the advice! She was not happy about being confined to the house, or on limited food rations, but is sulking by going to sleep on the kids beds upstairs, so I think I can handle that! I just hope she becomes more sensible as she gets older....
