My cat is the vets no.1 client

Littlest cat seems to be permanently at the vet. I think he needs to go again but where bloody closed for some reason.

Been limping on and off for a couple of months on his hind leg. Never bothered him too much, still eating, playing etc. Very recommended metacam as and when needed. Seemed to work.

Last Saturday be was sick a couple of times. Sunday he was sick a lot, and Monday morning about 10 times. Got him to the vet at 11, had an anti sickness jab and anti sickness meds for a week. A again, reasonably perky, eating etc

Roll on to today, he's been sick twice in 2 days and his limp is very, very noticeable. Still eating, less perky but seems to be enjoying just lounging in the sun.

I'm loathed to give him more metacam as his stomach still appears to be upset.

Any ideas of how to work this until Monday when the vet is open? Believe she'll want to x-ray his leg, god knows with this belly.

And no MN cat thread is complete without a pic... Here's his stick collection which he drags in the cat flap.

Is he urinating ok? Could be a blocked bladder which causes limping.

Feel for you, I used to have a cat who had literally every ailment going, and a few extra.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 09/05/2020 12:47

Difficult because Metacam does cause sickness. Does your vet have an emergency number for advice? If not your insurance policy may have one.

That is, however, a marvellous stick collection and he has every right to be as proud with it as he looks.

Also he is lovely Flowers

JorisBonson · 09/05/2020 13:03

@Janaih I didn't know that, I'll keep an eye on it. He's been fine up until now so I'm not sure.

He is the least elegant and clumsiest cat I've ever met in my life.

@YesItsMeIDontCare we were surprised to see they were closed today, they've kept fairly regular hours during all this weirdness - am in no way badmouthing them, they've been fantastic throughout, just very weird that they've shut up shop and haven't signposted people elsewhere.

Good idea re going through insurance, I'll have a look at that.

(All the visits so far have been around £100. Our excess is £99 🙄).

Re: the insurance, you should be able to put all the separate visits in on one claim so you only pay one excess. I think there is a time limit but it's quite long, although I know insurers are trying to trim the fat.

JorisBonson · 09/05/2020 15:37

Yes when it (undoubtedly) goes to x-ray phase for his leg we'll ask for a copy of all our receipts for that problem.

He pops in every now and then so say hi and grazes away at all the food bowls. He's very much an outside dweller so I don't want to stress him out further by keeping him in. He's currently sitting in the shade with his nose through the fence peeping at the neighbours.

With the sickness is he scavenging? Have you wormed him hairballs treatment etc?

Toddlerteaplease · 09/05/2020 17:36

His stick collection is impressive! He's gorgeous. Wish my cats vets bill were only £100, bit once have they been to the vet for a 'normal' problem. It's always extra complicated. Hmm

JorisBonson · 09/05/2020 18:00

@slipperywhensparticus he wormed monthly because he's a fan of eating flies, spiders, worms etc 🙄 he has hairball stuff but that's an avenue the vet wanted to explore

I know he likes his sticks but is he actually chewing them? There are sticks they can chew but not every stick is suitable

JorisBonson · 10/05/2020 17:57

@slipperywhensparticus

No - he walks around with them in his mouth like a dog, drags them through the cat flap, plays with them then promptly forgets them.

He's been eating very well today, no sick that we can see, and has been pushing us off of cuddled on the sofa with us all day. His limp is very prominent so the vet will still be getting a call first thing.

Aww poor thing mine had a limp he pulled a muscle fighting with his brothers it improved then got worse again (fighting again) we had to give him metacam and keep him calm and low down NO JUMPING 🙈 it didn't exactly go to plan but he was fine after a few days of metacam he is an indoor cat though so it was easier
