Bald irritated patch on cats neck, weeping * picture *

Does anyone have any advice? Is there anything we can do in the absence of a vet?

She's an otherwise healthy 8 year old moggie. She's been scratching at this patch and made it bald and irritated. Almost like eczema (which I suffer from). Is it allergies? It's only appeared in the last week.

Is there anything we might be able to put on it to sooth it?

She's recently been de flea'd and wormed.

I wouldn’t put human medicine on it, some chemicals are very toxic to cats eg essential oils or paracetamol.

Is there a scab? Could it be a fight wound.

Drogonssmile · 08/05/2020 18:56

Nope no scab.

Has it only appeared since the flea treatment? One of my mum's cats once had a bad reaction to the stuff on the back of her neck and ended up with quite a sore patch.

What flea treatment did you use?

Neck hotspots in cats are often allergy related - have you changed her food or anything

Drogonssmile · 08/05/2020 20:34

Flea treatment was about 4 weeks ago. Was Frontline which we've used all her life with no problem.

I definitely think it's an allergy but can't think to what. Food hasn't been changed recently and she's not eaten anything else that I know of Confused she does tend to get a fat swollen lip if she has a food allergy but that hasn't flared up 🤷🏻‍♀️

We had this once after flea treatment not happened before or since 🤷🏽‍♀️

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 08/05/2020 20:48

Oooh, I might know what that is!! My cat has this, it's usually allergy related, but tests haven't given us any answers. Short term a steroid gel/injection helped a bit, but we got referred to a skin specialist and this was diagnosed. DCat had various tests and she's now being treated with cyclosporin and it's helped massively. Her lesion is on the underside of her neck, so where a bell would be on a collar, which is a really unusual place as its usually on the back of the neck apparently!!

Our treatment plan has not been cheap, thank God for insurance.

It would be worth treating her with stronghold and giving her bedding etc a good clean in case it's a dust mite allergy, it could also be pollen or something else. It's important she doesn't scratch (a soft buster collar may help) but if it's getting sore and inflamed she'll need veterinary attention

Thanks @Veterinari and everyone else for your advice. I'll clean her bed, get the cone of shame out and keep an eye on her. Poor thing I can sympathise with her.
