Around 8 weeks ago we got a rescue cat, he is in perfect health but I have no idea where to even start with getting registered at a vets or insured, can anybody point me in the right direction?

I'm with Tesco, they've been brilliant. And I've had a lot of claims!

We have Sainsbury's pet insurance. It was the cheapest we could find. Never had recourse to use it though in the years we've paid for it, so can't vouch for how "good" it is.

Well worth the extra getting insurance that has lifetime cover. I know so many cats who have developed health issues that are permanent (diabetes, epilepsy, hormone imbalances etc) and without lifetime cover the payments for these stop after the first insurance year they are diagnosed. e.g. my DSiL was paying around £40pm for permanent drugs for one of hers, and it was costing my DSiS over £50 pm for her cat's epilepsy treatments.

If the cat is going to go out, go for a larger annual payout amount as if a cat is hit by a car for example it can cost thousands in surgery and aftercare (indoor cats less likely to have a major trauma accident).

Bought by Many have been good for mine

I use animal friends

We are with paws and claws for one of ours and they have been brilliant. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September after a number of investigatory surgeries including a specialist. This would have cost us thousands but all we paid was the £60 excess. Its lifetime cover too which I would highly recommend as a pp said if they end up with a long term condition it can be very expensive.

Mine have run up bills of 20k!

They aren't the cheapest but I'm a Petplan fan (and customer) and have found they pay out promptly. A lot of vets will claim directly. I honestly don't think you should skimp on pet insurance. Lifetime cover is a must. We have lifetime with a £10k limit per year but there is another with a higher limit which obviously costs more.
Our lad ran up a £2.5k bill last summer aged 2-this was 3 days in hospital with various tests and medication.

Pet plan. Life long insurance.
Worth it. They were brilliant when my cat died.

dementedpixie · 07/05/2020 18:42

Petplan was too expensive for me for 2 cats. Bought by Many has been more affordable and also paid out with no issues when I made a claim. It is a lifetime policy too

I'm a big fan of Bought by Many. Comprehensive cover and a reasonable price.
