Bastard, bastard fleas!

How the heck do I get rid of them. We have no carpets, I have steam cleaned and sprayed all our soft furnishings. We then did flea bombs in every room of the house and kept ourselves and the cat out of the house overnight (we camped in the bloody garden).

After doing this I put the cat straight in the bath and washed him. Put a spot on treatment on the back of his neck and a Seresto collar on him. He now hates me.

He’s hugely allergic to flea bites and had big open sores all over him. We’re not letting him out until they’re healed. I have just spotted 2 more fleas on him. How? Where the fuck is he getting these fleas from?

I’ve had to cut the collar off him as it’s given him sores all over his neck. He looks like he’s got cat leprosy.

What can I do? I’ve spoke to the vet who said there’s not much they can do that I’m not already doing. The Spot On treatment came from them and they recommended the collar. They given me some antibiotic cream for his sores but he just licks it off and vomits.

What spot on is it? Indorex is supposed to be good for using in the house

CurseryKinkajoo · 06/05/2020 12:30

Our vet were able to inject one of our cats with a flea treatment. From memory it didn’t kill the fleas but sterilised them so that it broke the cycle. We had to vacuum daily and used indorex(?) spray repeatedly (weekly or fortnightly?).

Our infestation came after the spot on treatment from the vet stopped working. We’re on a plan with them with monthly flea treatments so have always been up to date.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2020 13:03
  1. Which spot on?
  2. You need indorex spread.
  3. We used the injection too to break the cycle.

You can get pest control out too. Poor thing he looks like a stray.

We have a girl with a severe flea allergy and monthly Advocate is the only thing that works. It's expensive and has to come from the vet but worth it.

ACNHaddict · 06/05/2020 13:14

Thanks, I hadn’t heard of a flea injection. I’ll give them a call and see if they can do that. They’re only doing emergency appointments at the moment, everything else via Zoom. Hopefully this will count as an emergency as he must be so uncomfortable.

The spray was the Indorex one. I’m hoovering and steam cleaning daily and respirating any soft furnishings that he goes near. The Spot On was called Advocat or similar. It was direct from the vet and they said it was the best one.

I just don’t understand how he’s picking more up. With a flea treatment that went straight into his skin as he has no fur left there and a Seresto collar and the buggers are still happily crawling over him.

fluffycloudland I know, he looks awful 🙁. I’m not going to be letting him out until he’s looking a lot healthier and fleas are long gone. I’m sure a well meaning person would take him to a local shelter seeing the state he’s in.

Cone of shame and Sudocrem? Lots of bowls of hot Fairy water around the house. Could not believe how many love a hot bubble bath!!
Poor dcat.

GetTheSprinkles · 06/05/2020 13:26

Did you bathe him after the flea treatment? That would have washed it off, you need to wait 24 hours.
Also, treat ano other cats and dogs you have.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2020 13:36

He’s only got two fleas though? He’s not crawling with them?.

ACNHaddict · 06/05/2020 13:38

No I washed him before I put the flea treatment on. I washed him with washing up liquid rather than flea shampoo on advice of vets.

It’s only 2 fleas but just one bite gives him an open sore about the size of a penny that takes weeks to heal.

They dont have to bite to get killed by advocate. The insecticide is on the skin surface too so if a live flea jumps on it will get killed by contact with the skin before biting

ChangingConstantlyNamerHamer83 · 06/05/2020 13:53

One of my cats is allergic to fleas, he had sores all over him and so much of his fur fell out Sad he looked awful

I have spent a fortune on various treatments and the best one i have found is

Program Suspension for cats, it's absolutely brilliant, It costs £30 ,for 6 pippettes over a period of 6 months.

I have 4 so it doesn't last that long with us but it's the best stuff I've come across

ACNHaddict · 06/05/2020 14:43

dementedpixie hopefully the two I spotted on him were on their last legs then and hadn’t bitten him. The Seresto collar was supposed to stop them even jumping on him but it just made his fur fall out and gave him more sores.

Thank changingcpnstantly I’ll try ordering some of that. I’m getting close to just wanting to move house at this point Grin. I could understand if we had carpets but it’s all wooden floors. We have leather sofas (which I’m steam cleaning and spraying anyway) and he doesn’t go in the bedrooms where there are lots of soft things for fleas to hide in. I threw away his bed and bought him a new one (which he won’t sleep in). He sleeps in an old toy box at the moment and I’m changing and washing the blanket in there daily. Little Fleabag.
