Pregnancy and cat

Hi,

So we rescued a cat a year ago. She is 8. She was affectionate from the get go. Lovely cat. Would go out and come home etc good with current kids. Anyway, since I've been pregnant she has completely changed. I haven't changed towards her at all, I still gave lots of affection and let her sit with me, feed her, let her out etc but she doesn't want to know. She does things she never used to, such as scratch things she didnt before and she has a post, she went out one day and didnt come back for a week, she was around but no amount of coaxing got her in and she went begging at neighbours doors. They eventually caught her and gave her back to us. She has now started pooping in her bed and just outside the litter tray. I honestly don't know what to do. I can't help being pregnant and I've tried to be the same but it's really upsetting that our relationship has changed so drastically and my husband is getting more frustrated with having to clean up after her every 5 minutes which isn't helping the situation. Any ideas?

Also, I have stopped letting her out now as it is so much hassle and with the current covid situation, I don't want people keep knocking on saying they've seen her and handing back so easier to keep her in. Husband says we should let her out to make her own decision but she will stay out and then come back meowing and then run off when I open the door. It's what she does now apparently. :(

Jackson galaxy programmes are on YouTube too, if it’s pg related at least it will on,y go on for a finite length if time.

I’d get another tray, some ultra clumping litter & if that doesn’t work ring the vet.

Pooing in bed is highly unusual behaviour for any animal.

But will it? She might hate the baby being around too. Obviously I won't know that yet. She's pooping in her bed and on the kitchen floor then jumping on my kitchen sides at night.

I don't think she is at all unwell as she is jumping up on things, is eating fine, drinking fine. I genuinely believe she hates me being pregnant and is pissed off with it and stressed out with it. Feel like we are in a vicious circle because dh gets mad with it that then makes her not want to sit with us more and I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I understand his frustrations as he has to blitz the place every morning before we even feed the kids, have breakfast ourself and it even made him late staring work today. I can't clean it because I'm pregnant.

He needs to remember she’s an animal with no concept of naughtiness or hygiene. She’s very distressed & is acting accordingly.

Raising voices etc will only make her more anxious.

Have you tried a feliway plug in or two around the house. I used them when I was pregnant and after the baby arrived to calm my very anxious girls and it worked a treat. They were very accepting of their new baby sister!

Get a horizontal scratch pad. Cats get rid of some stress by scratching.

Play with her quite a lot to get rid of excess energy, especially since she’s not going out.

Try fine litter sand or paper litter.

Watch Jackson Galaxy on YouTube.
